Kitbashing Advice

Hi Everyone!
Does anyone have any advice on kitbashing a structure. I would like to kitbash a Life-Like General Store building into a small little restuarant of some sort. Can anyone help?

Perhaps you could offer more information. I'm sure not everyone knows what the LL general store looks like. While I may have seen it at one time, I don't have any idea what it looks like.

What is it you want to do with the structure that requires kitabshing?

Do you want to make it smaller, larger, wider, replace the front, sides, roof, etc.

What is your finished structure to look like?

Well, I've seen restaurants in almost every kind of structure, so I would say you could build it anyway you want. The key is to put signs up for your restaurant and maybe some kind of awning over the door.

I think I would want it smaller than it is. It should just look like a small town cafe.

You could add details like a big honking kitchen exaust fan on the side of the building. A sign saying Ape Cage Cafe or Hoggers restuarant. Add details like window curtins, awnings, garbage cans or dumpster in the ally, rats getting into the garbage, ceiling lamps, tables and chairs, a counter, a swinging door to the kitchen, cash register and people.

Heres some advice. When you cut the kit to remove the extra wall area you want to make it smaller.

Be sure to use something to hold the two peices of wall together when you glue them and start assembly. 90 degree angles look much better then something "Eyeballed".

Dependeing upon what era you model, you might want some era appropiate sighns to put on it. Old magazines are a good supply, and you can find lots of antique adds on the internet for billboards and such.

What I find useful is to photocopy each piece. Mount the copies to posterboard, cut them out. You can now play with the pieces to see how certain things will look without taking the knife to the kit pieces.

I rarely ever tried to kitbashed still haveing problems with a shke the box kits.

The first thing I would do is extend the deck and awning to provide outdoor dining. Add a couple tables and there is no doubt what it is. Decide which section is the kitchen and add an exhaust fan. In the back there are usually storage areas and kitchen equipment access. Sometines old sinks and stoves. Don't use any of the tool details on the side, obviously. Depending on the era, leaving the soft drink details might be appropriate, but non-food items wouldn't be. You probably want a nicer paint job and less weathering than a hardware store in the front and visable sides with more weathering in the back.
