New Haven question from new guy N

Just starting a N layout trying to include some childhood memory
stuff from the good old NHRR .Since there aren't many cars and engines
in N for the New Haven,I need to paint some GP's and FL's. Is there a model
master or polly scale,or floquil color for the orange -red of the Mc Ginnis
design.I have many years of modeling everything except Trains.This model
is for me for a change.Thanks for any help and your time to respond.

Unfortunately, I don't think there are any FL9's in N scale. There are only brass and resin FL9's in HO scale, so N is probably not the best place to look for them, unless you want to build one yourself.

That being said, the paint is out there. I use ModelFlex by Badger.

I use colors 16-182 and 16-183, depending on the orange color I'm looking for. One is a lot more "orange" while the other is more "red". Look at photos to tell the difference. I know I've seen two FL9's in the same color picture, one wearing a very orange paint while the other is very red.

Also, you can use Accu-paint's AP-14 or AP-16.

These are good colors, but are not a water clean up like ModelFlex is.

For decals, I recommend Microscale's various sets.

Number 60-68 is for GP9's.

Number 60-937 is for McGinnis cab units like FL9's. (No link).

Finally, I highly recommend that you visit the NHRHTA's website and post on their "New Haven Forum". You do not have to be a member to post or ask questions, but if you do join, you get 4 issues of the NHRHTA's magazine, the "Shoreliner" (the next several issues are to be about Readville Shops).

They also have a color guide for $15, which is actually a color chip book that faithfully reproduces the actual NH colors as mixed by DuPont.

Thank you Paul very very much.And yes we did visit the Historical Society and
enjoyed it also very much.We E d one of the board members who had his layout in
the Aug.Model Railroader.The photos of his layout gave me goose bumps.His area
of intrest is the area I grew up in and did most of my train watchin.He realy nailed the
look of the towns and the track system. Thanks for your responce

The New Haven is still the best railroad in the world - their revolutionary technology still survives today. Too bad, N isn't the best scale for a NH modeller. HO has most of the details and special products. Try a company called Model Memories for the perfect catenary.

The DVD is a 15min "production" that took close to 5 hours to make!
I made a copy for Antonio. He is really enjoying it.
What it essentially covers is the NH as portrayed on my layout from the 30's to the mid-60's. It includes the Comet, EP-2s, EF-2s, EF-3s, EF-4s and the Jets and some FAs.
I'm quite flattered that my layout served as an inspiration to you. I'm hoping that someday, MR will publish more of the photos that Lou took; perhaps in Trackside Photos.

Glad to hear you are still enjoying the DVD. I've done some more work on the layout. The new model board is installed and in service. The town of Devon is finally complete as is another area of Bridgeport. While the real City of B'port is tearing down factories, I'm doing just the opposite on the layout!

I recently got my new HO NH Besler Steam train from Crown Custom Products. What a beautiful model. It looks "so at home" running up the West leg of the wye at Devon towards Waterbury. I've taken some Ektachromes of it which I am sending to MR for possible Trackside Photos.
