Is anyone aware of a commercial model for the U18B? I'm modeling the Maine Central in the mid-70's which is when MEC bought these diesels. Not many were made so I guess its not high on anyone's list to produce.

I am relying on my memory here -- not a good idea lately - but I seem to recall that Lionel had an HO version in the middle 1970s that was reasonably accurate for the standards of the time. Of course being Lionel it would now be in demand by collectors who will always outbid real modelers -- and they'd howl if they learned you painted one MEC!

Jim Six talked about doing one from an Atlas U23B, but I do not know if he did it.

A U18B from an Atlas U23B has been done. Step-by-step instructions are posted in the Files section of the yahoo group MEC_RR.

If you model MEC, I'd suggest joining this group for the info.

I get the impression from browsing the issue that Rice did his conversion from Athearn units. Is this correct?
