I purchased this Athearn blue box loco from my friend getting out of the hobby. It was new in box. It's an SD-40. The GP-38's I have easily seperate by squeezing in the middle of the shell but this one seems different. I don't want to force anything. These are pics of the engine I am referring to:
I just want to take a look inside at the gears, etc. as I believe its been sitting in a box for quite some time. Any tips or tricks to these? Thanks-J1

If it is an older blue box SD40-2, there should be 2 pins on each side by the fuel tank. the the body fits over.
Unless it's one of the newer drive units then the body should just pull off as it's the coupler boxes that hold it on with screws.

looks to me like the one i have. There are two pins that hold it in on either side of the fule tank, pry VERY GENTLY with a small screwdriver and the shell should lift right off.
