Athearn SD45T-2 Pics!

I just purchased a new Athearn SD45T-2 and I haven't seen any actual photos on the internet so I thought I would post a few for your enjoyment. Sorry my camera is not that great for closeup shots.

I have been very happy with my 2 Athern RTR GP-60M. run well.. Maybe a bit light though..

I'm eagerly awaiting my order ... I ordered the SP and SSW models without numbers on the cab. My hobby shop tells me they didn't do these as the very first shipment, but that my models should be in any day now.

They look great. I'd like to hear from someone how good they run.

I went to Happy Hobo Trains and saw the SP units. They are beautiful! Were these made in the California Athearn plant or China?

By the way, BrothaSlide, how does your unit run? Is it reasonably quiet?

I bought a Cotton Belt unit a couple of days ago.I don't have a layout right now, so I can't run it yet[:(],but it looks awessome[:D].

Why not have a little fun and do what I did if you can't build a layout now?

Get a narrow board or shelf that's a foot wide and 8 ft. long. Mount it on a wall with brackets, or put it on top of a bookcase. You can lay tracks along with several switches to interconnect them. Get a quality powerpack like an MRC Tech Series. Total time it took me: 30 minutes! I have a two track main line along the edge closest to me with a branch spuring off to connect to a 3rd track along the back edge. Looks just like a double track Mainline connecting with a Branch Line. I have no roadbed. Just tracks on top of the shelf, yet visitors are impressed with it. Go figure!

I test and run my locomotives all the time on my shelf. This will suffice until I finalize my plans and materials for the layout I'm going to build.

My friend owns one of the new SD45T-2s in Cotton Belt livery. I've seen it in action, and boy is it nice! Runs VERY smooth, IMO. It does have a little bit of a "growl" to it, comparable to that of a newer Genesis unit. The headlight and the gyra light up, and he reworked his gyra so that it "moves". Very cool!

Better go and get one!

I posted this on the Atlas forum, and thought it would be appropriate here, too.

I just received my first SD45T-2 and I'm impressed with the level of detail and paint. Yeah, I know--I'll have to detail the pilots myself, but that's a lot less than one had to do the old "Blue Boxes". Haven't run it yet as I'm waiting for a 9 pin decoder from Tony's.
I did notice two things that need correcting. All the wheel sets were a bit narrow in gauge, and the gearboxes were swimming in oil. This is not a good thing, as it will migrate to the wheels and then to the track. I would recommend to anyone who has one of these to dis-assemble the trucks and degrease the gear sets.
When I get the decoder and run it awhile, I'll be back with a further report. I hope that I'll not have to remotor, as I've done with all my other Athearns.

Or BNSF! BNSF doesn't operate SD45T-2's.

Genesis and RTR are made in China. The Blue Box kits are the only ones made in Carson, CA.
