Going digital with mantua
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, June 13, 2002 10:30 PM
I found a "Sirit of 76" engine that was my son's. I run an atlas dcc railroad. I would like to include this Mantua-tyco engine but have not figured out how to install a decoder in it. Has anyone done this? Is it doable?

Thanks for your help. Fred

Fred;

There were three Tyco Spirit of '76 engines: a steam locomotive, an Alco C430 four axle diesel and an Alco C630 diesel.

For the steam locomotive, the motor needs to be modified in the brush area, and the decoder installed in the tender.

For the Alco, the easiest is to get an Atlas C424/425 chassis for the C430, or a Stewart C628/630 chassis for the C630.

Nigel,
Thanks for the info. My "spirit of '76" is an Alco C430. I'll look into the replacement chassis.
