Well other than new decals and the cutting down of the oil tank so it fits over the speaker, she's done. I'm waiting for a new bandsaw blade to cut the tank. Installed a SoundTraxx decoder and speaker. It's a tight fit but I got it in there. And also replaced the axle gears with the NWSL metal gears. it runs like a dream.

It been a long haul to get this beauty ready to go, but seeing and hearing it run has made it all worth it.

Still have one more to do the same with, but it needs some parts for one of the trucks. So it will have to wait for a while. I wish Bachmann still made these beauties, and parts for them.

Life is too short not to play with trains, so grow old not up my friends.

Hello All,

Fantastic!

I love geared steam!!!

On my coal pike set in the 1970s to 1980s, I use four-axle diesels- -GP30s are my favorite.

Hope this helps.

Oh, it's very beautiful you know? How long did it take you to complete it?

To be honest, it took me years. I found the loco at a train show about 10 years ago. Of course all the axle gears were cracked, so it sat as a display piece. Finally I decided to put a set of the NWSL metal gears in. Well that isn't as eay as it sounds, and I ended up buggering up one of the trucks. So then the search was on for a truck. When I finally found one, I sent the loco to 7th Street Shops in Hamilton, Montana to have them installed. That wasn't cheap, but you only live once so.......

Anyway, it came back to me ready to go. The sound decoder install only took about an hour and a half.

All in all it cost me more than it should have. But it is a great loco. Looks great, sounds great, and runs great. It's also something you don't see everyday. And as long as my wife doesn't find out the total cost, I'll enjoy this for years.
