Is there any way to get short term access (say week or a month) to the MR archive (both index and articles)? I have 30 years of paper MR. Problem 1, I did not do a good of keeping issues in time order and some are missing. Problem 2, no index makes searching for topics difficult. I know exactly what I am looking for and would actually take an hour with computer/online access. Is it possible to print an article from the archive or save electronically?
Current archive does not have an index or a subject search.

Thanks Sheldon! The index works well and good news, I can sign up for 30 day free trial with access to MR and other Trains magazine archives. That's my solution! Perfect!

Your welcome, I have Model Railroader fairly complete from 1949 to now, same with RMC from about 1958 to now, as well as other stuff, NMRA stuff from 1968 on, etc.
The archive is fine for quick checks of information, etc, but to actually do a project, I still pull out the real thing, make copies of the article, etc.
People complain about the space - not a big deal for me, these three pitures show about 85% of all those mags.
The biggest trick is the cardboard holders and filling eack holder, which sometimes is two years worth or more - all in chronological order.

Wow, treasure trove in all those magazines and an excellent reference! It is very evident that you do your research in designing layouts and operations.

Thank you. I subscribed to MR and joined the NMRA in 1969, I was 12.
In another hobby I still have the 1700 vinyl records I started purchasing about the time I turned 14......
Don't all MR subscribers get access to the issue archive?

Yes, but it has no search function, you just look.up issues by year and month, then you can view them.

Yes, I know. The OP asked about short term access to the archive and printing articles in addition to the index. If he's a subscriber, then he already has access.
No, Model Railroad subscribers do not get archive access. Trains.com subscribers get access to the archive as far as I know.

Actually there is a package where you get the print magazine and the archives only. I know this because that is what I have, and I have had it since the archive started. And if I recall correctly, all new print subscriptions are that way now.

If you read his post carefully, he also suggested he needed a search function and seemed to assume the archive had one. Hence my original reply.
I'm confused. I thought I was only paper copy. Checked my subscription on MR and it shows that I have both paper and digital. Cool! How do I access the MR digital archive? It appears to locked and only available with a Trains Unlimited account.

Evern though you don't have the full Trains.com, sign in on the Model Railroader page, not just on the forum page. That should unlock the archive.
If not call customer service andthey will fix it.
Okay, looks I need to contact customer support on Monday. Thanks for trying Sheldon, just messed up with my account. Have a great weekend!
Hmmm, I can only find an email address for MR customer support. No replies to my Monday email. Does anyone know the toll free number for contacting MR customer support?
Try: Call us at 877-246-4879
Thanks Maxman! I called the number you provided and was able to obtain access to the archives.
