The three boards on the left are styrene weathered as wood the three on the right are wood.

Does the styrene look better, I think so, how did you get it right???? not the same paint on both was it?

The styrene always looks better because it is easier to control the coloration, both pieces are painted with the same white acrylic paint and same India ink/alcohol stain.

Styrene does make for better wood.


These are two modified tyco plastic deck flatcars. I painted the decks with Testors "wood" and ran washes of brown shoe polish over one. The darker one got black shoe polish. Then I lightly drybrush a little Polly S railroad tie brown on both.
