For those that don't know, Dave (the side discharge rotary snowplow thread guy) had knee surgery today. Don't know how it went, but I want to wish him a speedy recovery!

The surgery went well. No complications. Physiotherapists were happy. Very little pain so far, but my knee is quite stiff.

I tried three times over about 36 hours to post my good wishes for Dave. Anyhow, here they are..finally. My then 88 year old dad had his first knee replacement and worked very hard to self-rehabilitate. Of course he went to a PT and got some coaching, but he spent a lot of time doing 'the right things' as soon as he felt able and endured some serious discomfort in order to gain back what an 88 year-old should have. Two years ago, he had the second done.
Dave, replacement surgery? My wife has had both done.

Thanks everyone for the kind wishes, and Bear, we could sure use a ton of ice. I have a machine that pumps ice water into a sleeve that goes around my leg. It works very effectively for preventing both pain and swelling but it requires a full bag of ice every three hours!
TF, do I understand correctly that you have had six knee surgeries?!? You need to stop kicking so much butt and give your knees a rest!!
My recovery seems to be progressing very quickly. I have to tell myself to slow down with the walker, and I am not experiencing nearly the amount of pain that I was told I would. The only side effect of the pain killers so far is that my typing is terrible.
I won't bore you with the gory details each day. If my leg falls off I will let you know!

My late father-in-law had bad hips and called me for advice. At close to 50, I had rotator cuff surgery and went back to hockey and skiing. I told him he wasn't getting any younger. He wanted to get back out on the tennis court at close to 90, and he did. A fine gentleman all the way.
Don't give up. Do your PT faithfully. One time, I asked the PT trainee if he wanted to give it a try. He was fine, so the next time I asked if this time, I should be a complaining old man so he could get that experience, too. They laughed, and said they'd already seen him that morning.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Thanks for the good report Dave and hang tough buddy. My wife must go through a a knee replacement in a couple of months.
Just a short update. I had the dressing and the staples removed this morning and everything looked great. The surgeon said that after only 12 days I am ahead of where most people's recovery is at four weeks.
Glad he's on the mend.
