Bloody Mary's for all.

The original terminus of the B&O Railroad was Ellicott City.  In 1955, when I was 4 years old, this was on the tracks.  Not something I ever saw.

Remember also those who did not come home.

I agree and this is my reasoning behind posting the photo of Joseph Ambrose who lost his son in Korea in 1951. He is holding his son's flag.

Joseph Francis Ambrose (May 24, 1896 – May 1, 1988) was a World War I veteran from the U.S. state of Illinois who served with Company I, 140th Infantry35th DivisionA. E. F., from 1917 to 1919, becoming nationally known for his photo at the dedication day parade for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., at the age of 86. In this widely viewed and circulated United States Defense Audiovisual Agency photo, he was photographed wearing his Doughboy uniform, helmet and field equipment, for which he was known as "Doughboy Joe". In the photo, Ambrose carries the U.S. flag that had covered the casket of his son, Clement A. Ambrose, who was killed in the Korean War in 1951.

Good afternoon, diners.  I'll have a Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat beer while I watch the Royals play the Washington Senators Nationals baseball game.  Win or lose, I love the Royals.

For years, the Royals have talked about a new stadium, and most believe it will be built downtown.  The drawback -- any new stadium nowadays will cost $1 billion plus.  The A's new Las Vegas stadium is projected at 1½ billion.

My county is now officially in 'exceptional drought' territory.  Almost all of our farmland is irrigated, but it costs a lot to run the pivots every week.  Since our entire economy out here is growing corn or beans, this is a major issue here.  I hope it rains soon.

Have a great Sunday, everyone.

Good Afternoon,

Another very hot day here, it is 88F right now ahd supposed to be hot all week. I don't like the heat. It should be about 70F this time of year. We, our I should say my wife, has a lot of flowers to plant. Should take 75 pots or more. I thought we were to cut down this year as it is just too much work and expense.

No train news. I did run my CN Hudson this week but it is now back in its display case. I moved my Northern to a case. I don't run it much and I can see it better than sitting on a siding beside the engine house. It is only a coupĺe of steps to put a display loco on the tracks and I always wash my hands before handling.

The migrant birds have gone so quiet on that front.

Ed, do you ever hear from Ken?

No preference on where the Diner goes.

Good evening from the stunning West Coast where we have had only 16mm of rain in May so far.

Our last remaining MRR store in Vancouver is closing its doors next Saturday after several decades of providing excellent service. Central Hobbies is/was the model train store of choice for a lot of people. I drove into Vancouver just for one last look and the place was packed. I ended up spending about $500.00 and even though they said there would be no discounts I got a good one as the items were rung up.

I have heard there may be a deal in the works to save it as two people have stepped up to buy it. The big bonus for me is they will be moving the store about an hour East of Vancouver which makes it a whole lot closer for me. I buy most of my stuff at PWRS just because they are close enough for me to pick things up and I don't have to pay shipping. Now Central Hobbies will be in the mix.

I got a call from the neighbour up the road whose dog was in serious trouble, my wife was out for the day so they got me. I won't go into the gory details but we got the dog loaded up and I sent them to the Animal Emergency Hospital about half an hour away. I told them the dog would likely not be coming home and to be prepared for that. The dog did not come home but at least was no longer in horrible pain. It kind of ruined the day. They thanked me profusely when they got home for the help as they had no idea there was an emergency clinic and their Vet was closed.

I have been at the desk a lot this week working on an Estate that is in year four. I have spent about $100,000.00 of the beneficiary's money on Accountants and Lawyers. The person who died was textbook dysfunctional in all things financial and legal. I just can't understand how that happens. Get a will people and don't leave a minefield for your loved ones to navigate or all the wealth you have worked a lifetime to accumulate will go to the Government/and or the professionals hired to fix the mess.

Well, there is lots of light left to get a quick 5km in with a mutt, beats sitting in front of the idiot box.

All the best to all.

My kind of rush hour.

My parents had a will. But the also had to go into assisted living. We sold the house, there was already a man who had been interesed in it for several years. The price was good enough especially considering that there were none of us to stick araound and negotiate a better deal. We sold their car, Russell took that dowen to North Carolina where he could get a better price for it and seeing how he is in the auto business down there. Dads art library went to the local library, and since dad had everything in sturdy wooden or metal boxes, we jusst put those on a truck and send them down to North Carolina... we could pick trhough the boxes when wew went down there. Some of the big peices of furnature were divided among my brothers (I have no need for furnature) but some they kept of course to furnish their assisted living apartmement.

The Assisted Living cost a lot of money, but we still had their investment income and the proceeds from the house and the car. The longer they lived the more money went out of the account. Once it was all gonmom (by this time) woulds have to move to a nursing home where she could use medicaid. But that did not happen, their accounts out lived them. Once Russell trook care of all of the expenses we divided the residual amount between the four of us. Account Closed, end of story. And no lawyers aof gubbement involved at all. I think that we each got about $15,000 out of the deal. Naturally I turned my share over to the monastery as per our policy and according to our vows. Besides, what in the world would I need money for....

Besides Rare Wildebeests!   And the Prior will give me money for that, since he never asks what I am using if for or ask for an accounting etc etc.

But they know.

Someone recently asked if I am still working on the layout in my garage. I apologise for not being able to find who posted the question, but the answer is yes and no. How's that for clarity?

I haven't done any work on the layout for quite some time and I won't offer any excuses. I have plain and simply dropped the ball. However, there is a bit of light at the end of the tunnel. One of our friends who just happens to be a retired CN engineer wants to help me with the layout. All I need to do is clear all the junk off of the layout table. That will be easier said than done because there isn't a lot of space in the garage to move things around. Maybe I need to hire another waste bin!

Anyhow, I'm hoping to get back at it this summer.

Cheers!!

Dave

Dave, it was I who asked and thanks for the up date. Looking forward to hearing of your progress as you have an interesting project. I wish I had built my table a little larger but I just can't see tearing it all down now just to gain a foot or so more length and width.

Mowing grass and doing errands is on the agenda this morning as it may rain in the afternoon. Hope so as we need it.

Coffee time again. I was up early and was greeted by a racoon at 6 am. He was cleaning up some bird seed. We have a paving stone circle with a pole in the middle where we hang 4 feeders. Makes it easy to clean up for us and racoons.

Good morning, diners.  Memorial Day in the U.S.  I live too far away from the parents' and in-laws' cemeteries, but I will just remember both our fathers's service in WWII.

Lion, my mother spent her last years in a nursing home with dementia.  She did not know me or my father for a long time at the end.  It bothered my father a lot.  They had nursing home insurance, so there was no problem with care.  It convinced me to get the insurance for my wife and I.  I know that Medicaid would take care of it if we didn't have any money left, but this insurance gives me more peace of mind.

Charlie, that sounds like a nice deal having the bird feeder over bricks.  My wife has a bunch of feeders on our side yard.  We have no grass there, and the ground is a carpet of seeds, seed hulls, and junk.  It bothers me, but I know better than to say anything.  Bang Head  She puts up with me in a lot of things, too.

Dave, I have no recommendations for where the diner should spend June.  I'm happy with wherever we go.

My back has been killing me for several weeks.  I hope it clears up before our vacation.  I don't remember doing anything to cause it -- it just decided to be painful enough that I can barely walk or do anything without loads of painkillers.  I can't complain -- I've done a lot of dumb things and gotten by with them over the years.  I guess I can put up with this, too.  My troubles are so minor compared to many people my age.

Evanston, Wyoming, has a neat Union Pacific roundhouse that has been made into an events center for the city:

Good morning

Hope everyone is having a good Memorial Day weekend.

We had a wonderful day yesterday, as it was not only my Grandsons graduation, but also his 18th birthday.

We are all so proud of him, and had such a good day of celebration with Family.

Good evening Diners.   A large whisky no ice please, Zoe.

The sun has appeared after a cloudy day.

Been 'chasing cruise ships'  to take photographs.  Quite a number to see in June.

As my layout is based (loosely)  on the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway  I acquired  this from L&YR Society.

Time to make dinner.

Dinner  Chicken Pasta  with Trifle to follow.

Edit:  No preference to where the Diner goes in June.  Wherever I am sure it will be interesting.

Just as I was about to go to bed last night, I started getting numerous messages on my phone.  Someone hacked my Facebook account from California and sent the following message to all my friends: "I think you might know this person who just died" with a link to a website no one ever heard of.

About half my friends who responded told me I was hacked, the other half said the link didn't work.  I hope no one got a virus.   I changed my 13 character LastPass generated password to 18 characters.

No idea how I got hacked, as I NEVER click on links in facebook messages and only go to a few groups: My rescued coonhound, old Baltimore photos, one of the MR train sale groups and the neighborhood group.

The weekend was cloudy and much less rain than we needed.  Nascar was postponed numerous times for rain and they restarted the Xfinity race at 9:45 pm.  Chase Elliott got himself suspended for retaliating against Denny Hamlin who put chase into the wall.

Wifey had a clean MRI follow up for her breast cancer so all is good here.

Good Morning Diners!  Janie, a large coffee please.

Late night last night.  Daughter's high school soccer team played their final game last night.  The opposing team was very good and we knew going in that a loss was on the way.  Still, the other team was very physical and pushed the bounds of what is allowed by the rules.  Sadly the ref let it go until not one, but two of our girls got hurt.  I was shocked there was no card on the first injury as one of our girls took what appeared to be an intentional shot to the head (and resulting apparent concussion) as they were fighting for the ball.  The second was even more blatent as the ball was clearly away and the opposing player absolutely leveled our player.  Finally a yellow card came out, the other coach pulled the offending player off the field and...gave her a high five.  Sad.  Once everyone was home, fed, and showered it was 11:30.  That 5:00 alarm came WAAAAY to early!

Good morning, diners.  Bacon, eggs, and black coffee, please.

The grass needs cutting, but I will put it off until tomorrow.  That means I have a day with nothing planned.  Of course, my wife is still asleep.  As always, my schedule will change when she gets up.  I'm sure there is a long list of things for me to do.

Mike, I can't stand coaches like that.  In all my years at the schools, thankfully I never had to deal with a coach who pushed the rules like that.  Our schools' athletic association was very good at making every coach know what was expected and that they were all to follow rules of good sportsmanship.

It's these little two and a half, three hour drives.

Then she wanted to go to Spicer, Minnesota.

Had to cross state lines again, but who is me to argue, there's a bit of a view of the lake.

More importantly, a Grandview of the telephone poleLaugh

You can even see the wood grain in it like art.

May wish to stay here another night.
