No Mike You have not been living under a rock but I believe possibly our host MR has when it comes to their customer base.........unfortunately must be the woke thing. MR is not at all like it used to be...FUN......
Take Care, All!

There was some thought that the "rail bender" in the April MR might be the April Fool joke. Today I received an e-mail from Micro-Mark showing the rail bender as one of their sale items. Maybe MR and and Micro-Mark have teamed up to do a double barreled joke on us. Naaaaaw....
Mark B.
Did any of you guys go to the House On The Rock?
Dodgeville, Wisconsin.
If not, I'd suggest that you put that one on your list of priorities.
Just a delightfully disturbing Good Day.
PS Be sporting about it if you do go there, and stay at the hotel with the war plane blowing off the pads on the front lawn. It's Funner!
TF,
I was there many yrs. ago.......in the late 80's.
I'm an old SOB Vietnam Vet and proud of it

Yea, I had to look that up as well, along with the painting thing that Steve O. responded to, and the nitrogen tank, for air brushing, but turned out to be real, as well.
Steve didn't actually promote or recommend the nitrogen, but the author seemed to be miffed that Steve didn't come out and disclaim the nitrogen, as being dangerous, becaus it "could" leak, and replace the oxygen in the room, and everybody dies, dispite the fact that the air we breath is 78% nitrogen.
Anywho!! I couldn't find any thing else, so I guess the April thing is done.
A few of us used to go the House on Rock, back in the late 70's, what trip, literally,
Thank you for your service Frank. They didn't want me, 3 pins in the right hip, sent me home, what a lonely bus ride back to the county seat.
Now what were we talking about?
Have a great Sunday!
mbinsewiThe painting thing that Steve O. responded to, and the nitrogen tank, for air brushing.
I have known people to use spare tires, SCUBA tanks, or Oxygen Cylinders for an airbrush, but never nitrogen. That does seem unnecessarily dangerous.

Nitrogen does not need to replace all the oxygen in the atmosphere for the air to become unbreathable. Just like a very small concentration of methane in a room can make the air unbreathable.
Apparently 83% nitrogen content will cause asphyxiation.

Living the dream.
SeeYou190I have known people to use spare tires,
Wow, that's interesting! haha. I have a Badger aircompressor that goes with my air brush, which I'll continue using.
I've never ever thought about using nitrogen, and reading this in MR is the first I've even heard about it, and using it. Nope!
I actually thought it might be Tony Koester's article
There was no MR April Fool's joke this year. None of the ideas that we came up with (okay, okay, that I came up with) were very funny. Maybe we'll be more inspired next year.
And I second the recommendation to visit House on the Rock. Fascinating, fun, and very trippy. Expect to do a LOT of walking, though. It's laid out to be walked in one continuous route, and there are few shortcuts.
The motel with the plane out front is called Don Q Inn, and it's a great place to stay if you enjoy a there-have-definitely-been-ritual-murders-here vibe.

What about having us formulate joke ideas for the Apr edition? The editors can pick their fav without telling anyone. Just something to consider.

I believe that was tried several years ago at Model Railroader's request. I know that Kevin submitted one that was used. But evidently there was not much submitted.

I want to say it was two years ago (maybe 3?) that MR also skipped the April Fool's joke.
for some reason, I don't care for April Fool's jokes at all, but I enjoy finding them in MR.

My submission was not part of a contest or anything like that.
When Model Railroader skipped the April Fool's joke a few years ago, I contacted Dana Kawala directly and told him my idea. I had corresponded with Dana already about another article idea that never was used by MR.
I worked with Dana for about three months on the article. Writing the text was easy, making the image took a lot of work. I made over 200 shots before I had one he would accept.
Then they edited out the plasma effect I created.
This is the image I submitted before edits:

The whole process of creating that small article took a lot of time, but I finally got my beloved Athearn Trainmaster into Model Railroader!
Awesome, Kevin.
