Roco large circular can motors

In conjunction with my post on Model Power Roco made E8 locos I would be interested to find out more about the origins of these motors.

Legend(?) suggests that they were new old stock from WW2 Luftwaffe aileron actuator control motors, is there proof of this as it doesn't seem likely to me?

I don't think that they would be powerful enough for that, and weren't flight controls done with mechanical linkages back then?

Not sure about the original MP motors but years ago we used to replace them with Holland can motors. Just about the same size but with ball bearings and gold plated brushes. Amazing torque compared to the originals. They came from a tape drive manufacturer and were rejects for rpm for that use. But for us they were great and cheap at $2 ea !!! The original motors were pretty good motors .

Mark, I agree, on both of your points, certainly aileron control seems highly improbable. They are not marked with a maker's name so maybe ex German government unused stock is possible made for the aviation industry?

I'm quite envious, they were never available in England!
