Looking for HO trains - 1960 Bath New York
Posted by suziemaq on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 6:04 PM

I am trying to track down some information about my grandfather who, I am told, was highly involved in model trains.

My grandfather was John E. McDonnell of Bath, NY.  He passed away suddenly on Christmas Eve, 1960.

I know it is a long shot, but I am hoping to come across a model car he made or even just photos.

According to my dad, my grandfather hand made everything on the train cars except the wheels.  He would use a single hair paint brush for small details.  The car that my dad can recall most clearly was a Bath Pickle barrel car.

If you have any insight or information - please comment and let me know.

Suzie,

Do an internet search for the Lakeshore Division NMRA. This group has members in the Bath, NY area. This group has been around awhile and it's possible some one maybe familiar with your grandfather's work. Check one of their newsletter's online for a list of email addresses.

Chris
