Can somebody post a good quality scan or picture of the sign for Speedy Andrew's Repair Shop? The big one over the garage entrance.

I have looked all over, but can't seem to find one.

A straight-on photo could work, but this is not preferable.

Not that it will help in this situation, but I sometimes scan the decal sheets before starting a kit so I have some backup.

I do that on expensive kits with nice period posters. I did not do it for the Tyco/AHM/Pola kit here.

I found some of the smaller Tyco advertising signs,  but no Speedy Andrews.

I will keep digging, but I'm running out of box's to shuffle.

It is one of those classics from train set layouts of the 1970s and 1980s. It was also released in a nearly identical version called "Ma's Place" and sold by several companies.

This kit, the Ramsey Journal Building, Bachmann Coaling Tower, and Atlas Passenger Station were practically required on all 4 by 8 HO layouts.

It is one of those classics from train set layouts of the 1970s and 1980s. It was also released in a nearly identical version called "Ma's Place" and sold by several companies.

This kit, the Ramsey Journal Building, Bachmann Coaling Tower, and Atlas Passenger Station were practically required on all 4 by 8 HO layouts.

And even better for us old-school HO modelers, a lot of kits were based off of designs by E.L. Moore. J.D. Lowe's 30 Squares of Ontario covers a lot of E.L Moore's designs - he's planning to write a book on E.L . Moore's work - but here's a starting point.  I still have the "Ma's Place" rendition of Speedy Andrews, as well as the legendary Machine Shop (which originally was a part of the Gruesome Casket kit). Looking at this listing iimage, in the past I also had the Brewery, an Aunt Millie's House, and the somewhat puzzling "Repair Shop" (puzzling because I couldn't fit anything taller than my Tyco flat-car and low sided gondola inside, and at that there wasn't any room left for any other real detailing, so it just looked silly (note, the highlighted buildings in that image are E.L. Moore designs).

I had most of those.

But, I could have sworn the " Pickle factory" was also re-poped from the gruesome casket Co. 

I may " talk down" some of the Tyco engines and boxcars ...

But their buildings were AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awhile back I wrote a lengthy post on the origins of the E. L. Moore designed projects that were turned into plastic kits by AHM: The Origins of AHM's E. L. Moore Designed Kits. It also touches on how those kits were later produced by companies such as Tyco, Model Power, and so on. 

Oh, and there was Speedy Andrew's Surf Shop :-)

Aha, Mr Lowe himself posting.
Think I first came across your blog with the unpublished "E.L. Moore articles" series, and follow along to this day, albiet I lost a bit of interest when you put aside modeling 1980s downtown Toronto (which had some interesting modeling designs and techniques - alas the toothpaste mortar trick didn't work that well for me and yes I used plain white paste) and went onto the Loonar module and the camp trolley module.  Still, your E.L. Moore blog-posts are pretty interesting IMO, and wish you luck with your book if its still moving along.

BTW, why "30 squares of Ontario" anyway? Ontario is obvious, but 30 squares?

The "Pickle Factory" is still available from Walthers in their Trainline series. I think a few others in the Trainline series were TycoKits.

The answer to the '30 Squares of Ontario' mystery! When I started the blog back in 2009 I was building a 6' x 5' switching layout set in 1970s era Ontario, so 30 square feet, so 30 Squares of Ontario.
