I am upgrading an Athearn SW-7 with a PPW motor and flywheels. I want to change the engine wheels from the old Athearn "silver" to new nickel silver wheels. What is the best method for removing the existing wheels?

Never had to use anything but my hands; they should twist right off. I guess if you had access to a NWSL Puller, that might work as well.

Disassemble the truck, do you know how to do that? (I think maybe you should have a instruction sheet in front of you). If the wheel sets are out of the trucks hold one wheel between a finger and thumb on your left hand and the other wheel between a finger and thumb of your right hand and twist the wheels till the metal axles slip out of the plastic gear/axle tube.
If the wheel sets are still in the trucks, that is a whole nother procedure.
Then you will need to re-gauge the wheel set after you twist the new wheels with metal axel into the plastic gear/axle. Do not forget to install the bronze bearing block on the metal axle before you push the wheels together.
Thanks, guys, it is easier than I thought it might be. Thanks for your help.
