Brakie: <br /> <br />I generally agree with you about DC layouts being over-blocked. It's the theory that's needed (same for scenery), a lot of the folks coming in to the hobby have no idea how to wire anything beyond a single feeder, and absolutely no idea how easy basic scenery can be. And a lot of folks aren't as adventurous as I was when I started (of course, at 10 years old, most people are adventurous). But those are the two books I'd still stick with for a beginner (Rather than any of the 'for beginners' books, as most anybody can figure out bechwork for a 4x8 and how to use sectional track). One of the advantages is these two books are always usefull for a refresher on the subject when you haven't touched it in a while.
