i have a proto 2000 0-8-0 and it seems to short every time it goes over a frog on my peco switch tracks ,it runs on DCC ,tracks are clean wheals are clean not sure what is going on checked tender to see if there was a loose wire none that i could see i also checked the points on the frog and they are tight i am at a loss?[:(]

best possibility is the switch, the treads may be wide enough to cross over and touch other rails, if the frogs are insulted frogs to allow current to pass thru vs an all rail frog which polarity changes when the points move.
You may want to change to an all rail frog switch, but a little more wiring and insulated joints a must.

Change from an Insulfrog to an Electrofrog, add some insulating gaps and minor wiring.

Does the tender have electrical pickups on the wheels also...if not that is probably your problem...

have a 2000 proto 0-8-0 and i put a sound trak decoder including sound it misses power on track that is straight with no connectors also in curves and switches i have a variety of locomotives that work fine without misses i do not think that it has anything to do with the track itself . does anyone have an answer to this on going issue thanks everybody who answered before

Check the gauge on the locomotive's wheels, if they are a bit over gauge that might shove things far enough over to short on switches as mentioned above.

make sure all your connections are solid on the loco.

makes me wonder if a wheel set is backwards.

clean the track and the wheels.

lay down a paper towel on the rails and pour a little alcohol on it and let the engine run onto it but hold onto it and let the wheels slip on the towel.

you can clean car wheels just running it over the towel.

run the engine slowly over problem areas and watch where the wheels make contact.

check the gauge on all wheels.
