HAVE ANY N SCALE NYC SUBWAY CARS BEEN PRODUCED?

Hello all!

New to the board but old to the hobby. I stopped collecting back in the late 80's to go to school and "work" but I've been bitten by the train bug again. I've been searching on the net for NYC subway cars but all I can find are HO scale cars made by IMAGES REPLICAS and collect-corner.net. They look incredible but are too big. I want to have miles and miles of track which is why I want to build a N scale city layout. Any help on where to find some will be greatly appreciated.

there are some n scale subway cars that have been manufactured. i've seen them advertised in mrr. the represent the cars run on the IRT with colors of the ones i've seen decorated silver and blue. i saw them at the red caboose in manhattan but i don't remember the price.

The RED CABOOSE is somewhere in midtown (I think on Broadway or 6th Ave in the 40's) so I'll make a trip into the city this week. Granted, as long as the blizzard doesn't muck up the works too much.

their on 45st in the basement on the north side of the street sort of in the middle of the block. they have a display in the window. there is also another store across the street known as manhattan trains or something like that.
ps: if you go there let me know what you find. i was thinking of getting a set of them too as i worked in the subway for 31 years.

These are not models of NYC cars, but Kato used to manufacture a 4 car set modeled after the Tokyo subway system with (dummy) pantograghs. They were available in several colors and included interiors. No lights though, but is a good runing model. (Model No. 10-362) You might consider modifying and repainting them to suit.
I purchased a set from "World of Trains" in Forest Hills, NY several years ago. I paid $80. www.worldoftrains.com You might try calling them. Kato still offers several Japanese heavy rail transit sets. www.kato.com Look for Kato Japan in the index.

In the early days of N a firm called Sekiesui (spelling??) had a subway car that was probably of Japanese prototype but somewhat similar to NYC cars.
They also had a steam locomotive and Japanese commuter coaches that at the time were about the best you could get.

the cars that i am refering to are models of NYCTA cars not japanese prototypes. the newer cars that the TA has purchased in the last few years do resemble japanese type cars. but the older cars from the r42's on down do not resemble them.

The above URL will take you to a company that produces NYCTA and LI railroad cars in "N" scale. The Japanese models are nice if you want to get the feel of a large Metro system without a high price. I would love to see Lifelike produce their subway cars in "N" scale.
