For all you steam lovers, I found a site that will let you "build" your own steam loco. You chose you boiler pressure, driver diameter, piston stroke, and so forth. It will give you a read out of how much tractive effort you will produce and how fast your speed will go. I recomend checking it out.

I've seen that. It's cool, but it's too bad you can't see the locomotive. Someone needs to make one where you can choose the wheel arangement, boiler, driver height, paint, ect.

I had picked up a few steam books form Barns and Noble and they just did not give me the details I wanted. That night I came across this site and was just overwhelmed... I returned all the books Great site

Well, i played with it a little. I came up with this:

Boiler Pressure: 390 PSI
Driver Diameter: 40"
Cylinder Diameter: 39"
Piston Stroke: 39"
Cylinders: 4
Tractive effort: 1068709 yep 1,068,709
# of axles: 214 thats right 214

Not much of a real engine, just wanted to see the max tractive effort i could get
