Can't receive email notifications when someone replies to my post
Posted by ModelTrain on Monday, April 26, 2021 4:26 AM

Hi everyone.

Since the day I subscribe to this forum, I have checked all the options to receive email notifications after someone replies to my post. The problem is that I have never received any email notifications yet.

What should I do?

Good morning

I've been wondering the answer to your question for a long time.  My messaging hasn't worked for almost a year.  I can't even access it.

I have contacted customer service several times but I didn't get anywhere.

I have heard from other members here that the notification feature doesn't work for them.  A while ago I heard it doesn't work for anyone.  So you are not alone with that.

So again, Welcome to the forum Stef.  Don't forget your crash helmetLaughSmile, Wink & Grin

P.S.  It's good to have you hereSmile  Feel welcomed to come join us in the Diner.  We haven't solved the world's problems yet but we have fun chit-chatting there.

use to be able to get emails when a response was posted on a thread we "subscribed" to or when someone sent us a private message.

i assumed these features were defeated to force people to go to the website and see the various advertisements

Hi Stef,

The only way that you can find out if you have received any Personal Messages (PMs) is to go to the top right corner of the page where you can see the summary of all of your forum activity and click on 'Messages'.

Some time in the past the 'Messages' heading would turn red when you had a new message. We also used to receive an email when messages were sent to us. Unfortunately that no longer happens, so all you can do is remember to check your Messages regularly.  Hopefully Kalmbach will be able to restore the old notification method when they complete all the changes to the forum software.

Cheers!!

Dave

What should you do? LOL

Learn to love the forum for all of its shortcomings and cherish the fact that you and I can still post. I lost my Private Messages feature back in December, so now I cannot have ono-on-one conversations with other forum members.

You also need to learn the virtue of patience. For two or more years now, new forum software has been promised on multiple occasions. It's like pre-orders. The release date never seems to come.

My private messaging still works fine, including the red alert title, but I no longer get notifications about PM's.

The other notifications I have never turned on.........

I only want to know what is happening here when I visit here......

Ok I understand now that I am not the only one with this problem.

Thanks!

The red 'messages' indication still works on the Trains Magazine forums, so the code is there if they want.  The e-mail notification has been broken about as long as the inability to view profiles on mobile devices; I don't know if they're related.

I expect all this to be fixed (or confirmed as removed) together with a resolution one way or the other about an inline spell-check option in user preferences when Kalmbach's 'stage 3' is done.

Ditto for me.  Except I couldn't post a message that I had composed until maybe three months ago...suddenly.  Since early2020, I could type an initial message to someone, or respond to someone, but when I went click on reply, or whatever it says, the entire page would scroll down with me for some reason and I could never get my cursor on 'reply'. But the past two months, it seems normal, including the red font at upper right on the page.

This function hasn't worked in years. As web browsers and system software upgrades are added, more functions of this ancient and creaky forum software stop being supported. An upgrade of the Forum software is planned for phase 3 of the Trains.com rollout. Until then, please be patient.
