help with finding proto 2000 part
Posted by rs2mike on Thursday, February 18, 2021 7:54 PM

Hey all.  I just got a steal on 2 proto 2000 sd7/9's.  Unfortunatley in shipping one of the coupler covers shattered.  Does anyone have one they can spare.  I cant seem to find any in my stash of stuff and evil bay is coming up empty.

OR

If any one has converted these to body mounted kadee couplers and gotten rid of the metal mounting post, or has some picutes of how they mounted couplers on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

Hope I'm not hijacking the thread, but I'm looking for a Proto 1000 part.

It's a truck assembly from an RS11. I was trying to get one apart from a new-old stock purchase, and the truck side frame -and- one side of the gear housing broke on me.

Been keeping an eye on ebay, but this never seems to show up. If they still sold replacement parts, I'd buy one...

I'm looking at the parts diagram on HOSeeker, and they appear to be much like the Athearn cover, that snaps on over the coupling.

These:

Just a wild chance that one of those might work?  Maybe altered a bit?

I don't have a P2K SD7 to compare it.

Mike.

If I recall correctly, the BLI Paragon coupler boxes look just like that.

If that is indeed the part in Mike's photo, I have a bunch. How many do you need? No charge.

Go back to Last Spike Mike's post, and click on the link, scroll down to SD7 & SD9, on the list of locos, the column on the left.

Click on the pdf file thing on the list of locos, and you'll see the instructions.

Yes, it is there.  22 down from the top.  There is also a PDF instruction.

Finding stuff is an art these days, one wrong word or slight mispelling or wrong order on a search will keep you from finding what you need. I have gotten a lot of help on the forum this way.
