Cafe dining items HO
Posted by Industries1 on Thursday, February 4, 2021 11:05 PM

Does anyone know of a place to get the items you find in cafe for instance: sugar dispenser, napkin holder, ketchup bottle, individual coke bottle, milk shake machine, coffee maker or the like.

I used pieces from this Preiser 17220 set to detail some of my dining car interiors:

Some of those other items can be scratch-built.

The bottles are molded clear. I use green, (Coke) yellow/brown (beer) or red (wine) Sharpie pens to color them.

 Preiser also has cooks:

and dining patrons with utensils:

I have used stryrene rod to model HO scale mustard and ketchup bottles.  Sharpen the end of the styreen rod, cut it to length, then paint it yellow for mustard or red for ketchup.  Sugar and salt dispensers could be made from short lengths of clear acrylic rod with the top end painted silver.  Sugar or salt inside could be modeled by carefully drilling out the bottom of the clear rod to the level you want the sugar/salt, then paint the inside of the hollowed out segment white.  Round punches can be used to cut plates and platters from styrene sheet.  Lots if inexpensive possibilities!

I have some beer bottles, both in a case and loose, which look great on tables.  I also make napkin dispensers with styrene and paint them silver and white.

I have a City Classics diner and a restaurant in the first floor of a multi-story building.  I have detailed the tables inside, but even close up the interiors are pretty obscure.  I think the best effect is the red-and-white checkered tablecloths I printed on my computer.  I suppose I could have printed plates and utensils, too, right on the tablecloth.

Don't forget to put food on the plates!  Modelers putty could be shaped, painted to look like an entree and placed on one side of a plate. Scenic Express SuperLeaf could be used to model salad and don't forget the Woodland Scenics apples to simulate tomatos. Yellow ground foam could be used for corn while orange ground foam could simulate cooked carrots or even sweet potatos.  I have also saved colored gift wrap tissue paper to use as napkins, table cloths and even fast food wrappers.
