So I was digging through my basement and found a Proto E6. It's undecorated, has none of the details left, and rides on a crummy sb chassis. Should I rebuild it into an E5?
What's an sb chassis?

OK, thanks, wasn't sure what you meant.
So, you have a chassis for an E5? I guess whatever you want to build, you'll want to find a suitable chassis, if the scratch built one isn't doing it for you.
It's your call.
Hi Great Northern Fan 54,
Do you have photos that you can post?

"I like my Pullman Standards & Budds in Stainless Steel flavors, thank you!"
It would be challenging to kit bash an E5.
I heard Kato is considering doing an HO CB&Q E5. I don't know what they decided.
I have an HO Brass E5A and E5B, but would be interested if Kato decided to offer it.

Did that. The biggest problem was not the corragation, but there is a problem with the decals. On a E5 where the Burilington name goes there is a perfect area without any rivets. On the Proto there is no such place. Havent solved that yet. The area above the side windows.
Very interesting. I had not noticed the horizontal spacing that you mentioned until I saw the visual comparison photo, below, of an E5 and E6.
