Tetsudo Brass 4-6-6-4 Challenger from the 50s and an 1984 MDC 2 truck Shay I made ..plus a cool Boxcar!
Very nice!
Those are great Phil. Deffinatly two of my all time favorites. I have recently acquired the Challenger, a generous birthday present from my Brother.
I've been looking for a Shay or two for years. In N scale very few are out there and none of the elite loco manufacturers have made them for years if ever at all. The sub par loco manufacturer ones I do occasionally stumble across are used and they want 2-3 times as much as a new one would cost. I guess no one wants to part with their Shays as they are a bit rare lately.
I'm thinking about getting a kit and one of the motors for them that are sold separately. Although I don't know much about them. Looks like you did a great job on yours

There is a kit for an N scale shay right now on e-bay, since it is a relativly unknown company you may be able to get it for a good price.
Thanks for the kind words guys!I didn't know they could even make a Shay in N gauge!
I thought the MDC Shay was the coolest loco in the Hobby Store at the time with a REG. PRICE of $45.00, OUR PRICE $37.97. I was tickled to death. My Shay is DC and the ''painted'' date is 10/11/84. It is lettered for the Buffalo and Susquhanna RR. The front and rear pilot, for some reason were soaked in Brake fluid, a BIG MISTAKE. I crafted two out of real wood (not shown in the photo).
It's not any of the two Locos. mentioned above but I thought you may like to see another Shay. Many years ago I added this IRON HORSE MODELS By PRECISION SCALE CO. Shay to my stable of Logging Equipment and never painted it yet.
IIRC I remember seeing a N-scale Shay at a Train Show many years ago, maybe 20. IIRC it had a bulky looking boiler.

My friend Randy has a brass model shay in N scale. They also have one for sale at Gulf Coast Model Railroading.
It is bigger than any shay ever made, but not bigger than could have been made.
