Toner Density Settings for HP Laserjet Pro 400 M451dn Printer
Posted by Oregon Pacific on Saturday, January 9, 2021 9:48 AM

Greetings again fellow ferroequinologist!  My Christmas present to myself this year was a White Toner cartridge from GhostWhite of Germany for my Laserjet printer so I can now custom print "white" decals for my models.  Unfortunately, the print density or opaqueness levels are less than desirable.  I've looked on the HP website and did multiple Google searches about "Adjusting Toner Saturation Levels for HP Laserjet 400 M451dn Printer" with zero success.  Hell, the folks at HP can't talk to me on their virtual customer service line (I have very, very cruddy cell signal out here in rural, rural Maryland and zero wifi) so I'm hoping someone out there has a solution.  My system is an HP Core 8 processor tower PC with Windows 10, CorelDraw X6 64bit talking to an HP Laserjet Pro 400 M451dn printer.  I've checked all the print windows in the CorelDraw and Windows "print" scroll-downs and came up with no answers.  Is there any way to turn up the "volume" on the amount of toner that is applied to the printing surface... i.e. decal paper?  Any and all insights into this quandary is most appreciated, and many thanks!

I've been waiting to see a write up on the Ghost White toner.

I looked on their (GW) website and they say if the printing is coming out silver, set the printer to print in gray scale, because other colors are mixing with the white.

They also talk about grammage, which was a new word to me.  Grammage is what describes a light weight vs heavy weight paper.  They advise setting your printer to a heavier grammage.

I have an Epson inkjet and they list paper in the following order, which I think, approximates grammage.

  • white paper
  • ultra premium photo glossy
  • premium photo glossy
  • photo matte
  • envelope
