There is an excellent video that you can purchase from Woodland Scenics, and they also have several "how to" books. I have purchased and watched the videos, they are very good. If you follow their directions, it is quite simple. I have usded the inclines for a Christmas display, and they work well. You did not mention what gauge train you are modeling, and that will have some bearing on what locos you can run on your layout, assuming you are running HO, a 9 foot by 12 foot layout can handle any loco.
