Just recently I was working on a clinchfield 4-8-2 no.311 and I thought it would be a fun idea to make a movie with it my railroad club agree's that it is a good idea and it would be a way to learn how to use computer editing so we are hoping to get the mivie out by next year on my youtube channel.

I think that's a great idea. I've made several layout videos and posted them on Youtube. Getting the hang of editing software can be a little challenging. I use Adobe Premiere 11. There are some automatic editing features but most of the work has to be done manually.
There are lots of "how-to" tutorials out there. I'll often browse through posted videos of layouts but I can pretty much tell what I'm in store for within the first twenty seconds or so.
Shaky camera, poor lighting, or way too long of a scene with no action are a few things that make me move on to the next one right away.

Since my church had to cancel our annual Christmas train event, I want to make a video of some layouts to post. At least we can show off something.
When my youngest daughter was in High School, she and her friends used to make instructional dance videos and post them on YouTube. I bought her a good camera, and she used Sony Vegas (I think, IIRC) as the editing software.
I even had to paint one wall in her bedroom lime green so they could use it as a "green screen"!
It takes a good bit of work to make a YouTube video worth watching, and it can become a hobby all in itself.

Windows Movie Maker made it fairly easy to make videos, but Microsoft nixed the Windows Essentials. I have a Nero suite that has a video maker.

Yes! It's a great idea! One day, I'd also like to make a movie of sort of my layout. But in the meantime, I've been also just making short videos of trains running, and practicing my camerawork, color correcting, and overall editing.
I'm still practicing!

I have made several movies of trains operating on the BRVRR layout. Most of them are posted on the Video page of my website. (Link below.)
Most were made with a SONY Handycam video camera and edited with Microsoft's Movie Maker. I even experimented with a Mobius Mini. Gave that up because the conversion of the video files into a usable format was a giant pain.
I haven't made any new videos for quite awhile. When the wiring project is finished might be a good time for it.
Its not hard and practice makes perfect. Though I'm a long ways from that!
