And don't be too quick to judge. It matched the cars, which were silver/SS (depending on mfr) below the windows and Chinese red above. Many think it was quite a nice paint job. Check out this photo of the carbon steel trainset at Tucumcari in 1951: <br /> <br />http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/sp/sp-gldsta-amf.jpg <br /> <br />The SS looked very nice indeed with the Chinese red on top and the fluted sides below. <br /> <br />If there was a variation of this scheme that actually looked bad, envision this bright Chinese red/silver consist with a couple of red/maroon/black/silver Rocket units up front.
