Spine cars

Walthers offered a 5-unit articulated spine car in kit form that can handle up to 48ft containers or trailers - it seems to have been discontinued recently though some hobby stores (and ebay) may still have them. Athearn offered an Impack set that can handle up to 45ft trailers (not containers) - these came as a pack of end units and a pack of intermediate units as described above. Of the two, I feel the Walthers kit is better as it has diecast "spines" that add weight and is more versatile. The extra weight is handy if you plan to run the cars empty (as I did until I could afford a load)!
