We upgraded to a 55" TV from a 42" a couple of years ago, and it is perfectly sized for us. There is room for a 65" TV, but I think that would be too much too close. -Kevin

I will tell you my sister passed away in hospice care at her home not too long after we last talked. I did get to talk with her via telephone for a few minutes the day before she passed. She was kept comfortable right to the end and is with her Lord now. I got to lead the graveside service for her over Thanksgiving in Canandaigua that year. I was both touched and a bit overwhelmed to be asked by her to do that. We both were ordained Deacons. Different denominations but same office. The lady I have been dating for some time now is also an ordained deacon. I am Presbyterian, my sister was Episcopalian, and my lady friend is American Baptist....
We had a great picnic and my family and she got along very well and had some nice conversations. Both my Grandaughters are actively involved in sports (my friend was a Phys Ed Teacher) and in music (My specialty). So lots in common.

I still have my old train camera. It's one with an RF transmitter/receiver pair that works live without having to record, remove and finally play back. The receiver brought out the signal on channel 3 or 4, which then went into an old TV monitor. There was a fine tuning knob on the receiver to get the TV signal just right.
Several years later I bought a big flat screen. To my dismay, I couldn't tune the signal with the new TV. It was too fussy about the frequency. I had to haul out the old monitor, tune the signal with that and then re-cable it to the flat screen. Then it would work.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

They have Poison Ivy's Gretsch Guitar in the Museum of Pop History in Seattle. I saw it last year. I saw The Cramps live in 1982 or 1983.

I finished getting the cabinet benchwork together on wheel casters last night. I have my layout parked on it's new resting place I would consider it about 1/3 done. These 16 drawers are going to be a bit of a challenge after eliminating the heavy expense of 3 foot drawer slides. I have a good idea which can be dangerous sometimes. Now I have to "stick my hand in my head"

John, nice to see you back. How are things in Pictou? Wow, its been about 15 years or more since I was last there, likely closer to 20.
Nothing new here, still waiting for that brass Pacific to arrive. USPS tracking has basically stopped now that the parcel is north of the border. It could arrive today. Must stop looking at those brass ebay auctions as I've blown the budget already.

I was out on the porch having coffee really early this morning. I seen this old guy fumbling with a coat hanger trying to get into his car. It was still dark out at around 5:30 but the yard light works. I put my bandana around my nose and went out to see if I could help.
Cars aren't like the good old days to get into when you're locked out. I grabbed my mini Wonder Bar out of the truck and put a painter's cloth around it so I didn't blemish his car. I was lucky enough to still have a copper grounding rod that I could bend just right. I pried his window open just enough to hit the unlock release with the copper rod.
His name was Rodger. It's always good when you can make someone happy.
P.S. Haven't heard from either Terry or Mike from Wisconsin here for quite a while. Terry had just retired a while back. Maybe Mike's been busy building his shed up at the cabin. And haven't been able to Rattle Lion's cage very well.
Pray for me people. I'm about to drive to the metropolis of Cottonwood, AZ and foray into the depths of.......Walmart. That wouldn't be so bad, but last week my knee swelled up for no appearant reason so today, I have to wrestle a riding cart from the hoards of crippled people that live in a retirement state. I'm taking my daughter so we can cruise the parking lot and she can jump out and get one.
Of course, she can push the cart that will hold enough supplies for our household.
All that is to say, I'm not doing any MR today.
Oh, it sunny and hot here. But it a dry tripple digits.

Morning all, it is another stunning day on the Coast with temps in the mid-20s today.
Logged a few hundred kms yesterday. The wife is breeding one of her bitches to a dog from Europe that died in the mid-1990s. She had frozen sperm sent over from him when he was seven some 30 years ago. First I had to get the shipper filled with liquid nitrogen at a place an hour East of here which took a couple of hours. Then I hit the highway to go to where it was being stored to pick up the semen and bring it home. After paying to store this stuff for 30 years I sure hope it isn't freezer burned.
The female dog will be surgically inseminated today, I will hopefully not have to go help out.
Back around 1990 when she was trying to get this semen shipped from Europe she could not get an airline to handle it as the container was a special one not listed to fly on commercial flights. She was pulling her hair out trying to figure out how to get this stuff across the pond. She forgot she was married to a guy that knows how to get just about anything anywhere in the world. One phone call was all it took from me and it was on a freighter the next morning and in her hands that night. I picked it up not a 100 metres from my office at the airport.

Charlie, my Dad started at the Winnipeg Post Office sweeping the floor in the 1930s and retired in Vancouver in upper-middle management. He was pretty sharp and rolled out some innovative programs over the years.
My Grandfather was a medic in WWI and suffered from the gas attacks that he endured. After the war, he immigrated to Canada and had a booming goldsmith business and did very well for himself. He started to suffer from respiratory problems as he aged from the gas attacks and the fumes from the goldsmith business were making his health really go downhill. So he sold the business and got a job as a letter carrier with the Post Office in Winnipeg because his Dr. told him to get a job working outside. So my Grandpa and my Dad both went to the Post Office picnic where my Dad met my Mom and here I am.
Had the lady from the company that's painting our house come and help pick the colours. She showed up with a huge suitcase with thousands of colours in it and I thought, this is going to take all night. The wife, daughter and her had it all figured out in 15 minutes and she was gone. I know when to just sit back and say nothing, however, I did get them to go with a darker colour on the gutters as they tend to get really dirty with all the trees we have around here.
Well, the Vancouver Canucks easily dispatched the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday and I am looking forward to tonight's game 2. Our guys are a lot younger and I think with living in the bubble and all the other considerations from playing playoffs in these unusual times they should prevail. It is somewhat strange watching the playoffs in empty buildings, but as the players say, it is just like playing in Florida.
Ken, congrats on getting the debt down, like smoking, it is one of those things that is nice to put behind you. Keep up the good work.
Jimmy B, how is the bike program going. PM me if you want some helpful hints. I won't give too much advice other than to point you in the direction of some info and you can make your own decisions from that. We are all different and need to find a path that works for us individually.
Weight loss and maintenance is more dependent on diet than exercise and good health is really determined a lot by fitness. Don't worry about doing endless situps, you already have a six-pack as we all do. The ab muscles get more work every day than you know and are well defined, however, if you can't see them a little bit of goo reduction will take care of that. If you do a hundred push-ups and a hundred sit-ups in a week, even if you can start off doing only two or three at a time every few hours, you will notice a huge difference in your muscle tone. It takes me about twenty seconds to do ten pushups and I do them when I am on the floor with the dogs or down there beating up my kid or in the commercials while watching hockey. Don't do as many push-ups as you can, do half as many and then it won't be hard work and you will do it, and in a year you will knock off a hundred without the least bit of effort. I am a firm believer in the gain with no pain workout.
The kid is doing his last Hockey broadcast chit chat show today as he has had to quit that and his writing. He has too much on his plate and school is starting in three weeks.

Almost paniced. The basketed Ferrarri ran out of batteries in the turn coming out of the bread isle. Just went "clunk" and stopped dead. No juice. Stranded.
Luckily a Walmart employee came to my rescue and found me a replacement. It was faster, quieter, and more responsive in the turns. A Lambourgini, no doubt.

I only shop at Wal-Mart about every four weeks, and then only for things that are not practical to get anywhere else. I would rather shop LITERALLY ANYWHERE else.
I get trash bags and cleaning supplies from Home Depot, groceries and household items come from Publix.
Walmart has a couple of my favorite food brands I cannot get elsewhere, #11 Xacto knife blades, and some other items. They have those big bags of Luzianne Tea that Publix does not stock.
I always have a list, and usually it is less than ten items. I hit the self checkout and get out of there.

Sounds like you had a Tuff Wally World Experience today Chip. I feel for ya, I hate those. Sounds like a few of you are having same experiences.
We boycotted the Wally World closest to our place because it's so nasty. East Bloomington isn't as nice as West Bloomington so I never go there anymore.
We purposely drive out of our way across the river. We got a new one down in Burnsville last year, we call it Freeway Wallmart. Even now-a-days if we go there early in the morning we have the whole store to our selves.
They say they're going to switch all the Walmarts up here to self checkout. We also just got a great big Aldi up here with 10 ft shopping isles. All of their prices comprable and some lower than Walmart. Aldi's cashiers must have went through some kind of training program because they check you out so fast it makes your head spin.
If Walmart goes to all self-checkout I'm going to start going to Aldi only. I refuse to do self checkout when I'm giving profits to a store. Especially when they're cutting people's jobs who.need them just to turn a bigger profit.

Celebrated 20 years with the ol' ball and chain last week, rented kayaks and went down the Namekagan river! Kayaks are fun. For younger people. Ha! Actually enjoyed it but getting in and out was an effort in not embarrassing myself. Highly recommend and will be doing that again!!

Dianne and I are celebrating our 39th anniversary today! It has actually been 44 years since we met at Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario.
Cole and Kaitlin are making pork tenderloin crusted with maple syrup and parmesan, and grilled asparagus for dinner!
The cottage has been great! We are half way through our vacation. I'll post more when we get back home.

There used to be smoke bombs that came in packs of 6/8--The mole run was exposed, the device was shoved in--lit--the opening covered over with a flat rock, board, etc., and left to burn. they seemed to work, moles left/died, never came back.

Back in the 60s, a pointer named GuardRail, had some of his sperm frozen. Some was used last year, the gyp threw 5 pups that were almost exact copies of GuardRail. Because he was such an exceptional dog, his owner had a quantity of his sperm frozen in 67, and is dolled out for big bucks today.
Speaking of dogs, Dame Agatha is just over 11 months old now. I will have her ready for duck season. She is steady to shot, and will deliver to hand, My real challange is my heart is starting to plug up, and if it cannot be corrected with drugs, I will be looking at a multiple part by-pass. I just spent five days in two different hospitals having scans done, two done from the arteries in my left and right groin, and one done this morning through the artery in my right arm. Consensus among the chin scratchers is the stents that I already have need to be replaced,( and we did not do this while we were there today because----?) so we are going to wait and try cleaning everything out with drugs before we do a multiple bypass??
I did discover that there is now a sonogram device used to locate veins, that takes all the guess work out of having a stick for an IV. Because I can be a bad stick at times I really appreciated this.
Trains are running (for me) exceptionally well, most of the time they all come back to the starting point.

Have some work to do today. I opted to work Saturday as I was too busy with train stuff last week. I like working on a Saturday, it doesn't feel as much like work because it's a Saturday, if that makes any sense.

Hey all. Hope you are all well, Been a rough week for me. One of my cats passed away, sure she was 18 but it still hurts to lose her.
I've been plugging away at some model railroading as well.
Today will have an interesting NASCAR race- first time for the stock cars on the Daytona International Speedway Road course, so it'll be interesting to see if the drivers will be able to tame the beast.
I bring some good news in regards to the tourist train world. The East Broad Top Railroad ran their first official passenger trains in NINE years this weekend, with brass on the first. The first train was pulled by the M1 Brill railcar, towing office car 20....with the brass being the whole Kovalchick family onboard. It'll be a journey for the railroad to return back to pre 2011 condition, but the board has shown the initiative and right direction to move the railroad. Here's to hoping for a train to Saltillo one day.
