Grid Overlay For Work Surface
Posted by jjdamnit on Thursday, June 25, 2020 6:07 PM

Hello All,

I would like to have a grid overlay on my magnetic gluing plates similar to the ones on my cutting mat.

For the plates it doesn't have to be clear but I would prefer a peel-n-stick back.

Does anyone know of a source?

Thank you in advance for your responses.

I've seen my wife using something like this for laying out quilting squares and embroidery work:

I use the double-stick tape that comes with window film kits since there is plenty left over but you can use any kind of double-stick tape to hold the grid in place.

Good Luck, Ed

I have been using so-called "transfer tape" (3M is a common brand but there are others) that in essence can make anything into peel and stick.  It is very thin, transparent, and I have it in 1" and 3/4" widths.  I do not see it at office supply stores but rather at craft/art supply stores.  It isn't cheap but it is so thin that a roll goes a long way - my two rolls will likely out live me! Dead

I think you can get the clear peel and stick and run it through your printer to apply the grid. If you cut it to pieces just print off another one. As well you could print off different size squares as required.

Hello All,

Thank you for all the suggestions.

I found a roll of clear transfer tape with 1/2" grid squares. It's 12"x50' for $20.00 w/shipping. That much should last a lifetime.

Apparently this is commonly used to transfer vinyl die-cuts.

Again, thank you for your suggestions.
