Does anyone have a list or link showing which railroad paint schemes the Bachmann E60CP has been available in???
Depending on how the above question comes out, i have another question. What solvent / chemical would you suggest to strip the paint down to bare plastic from one of the commonly available Amtrak scheme Bachman E60s???
Where I am going with this thread. I want an E60 (or two) in Pennsy, Penn Central, Conrail or Chessie paint for hauling trains through the Detroit Windsor (Ontario) rail tunnel on my layout. I have been watching Ebay but so far no joy.
As for the solvent to strip the shells, use 91 percent isopropyl alchol (rugging alcohol). Costs about $2.00 at Walmart for a pint. That is what I use. Does NOT harm the plastic. Soak shell for 30 minutes, scrub with an old tooth brush/ Repaet until shell is striped..

91% Isopropyl alcohol, generally, works well for stripping the paint off of Bachmann, Life Like, and older run Walthers products (except for plated finishes).
Another option is the purple colored "Super Clean" that's commonly available in Walmart, Auto Zone, Grainger, etc. One gallon averages about $9.
After scrubbing the shell with a toothbrush, wash thoroughly with a soap that contains NO MOISTURIZERS. ( like original Dawn or Ivory Liquid).
Just an additional suggestion: Bamboo skewers and toothpicks come in handy for paint flakes that stubbornly cling on to corners and crevices.
I'm a big fan of the E60's and glad to see a fellow modeler spruce one up. If you don't mind, please take and post photos of your progress.
