This is a new one coming out. Think they are good with sound?

From what I gather it is not a "new" model from the rail-head up but another upgrade to the original B-B model.

Tsunami2 is a decent decoder, I have several in use right now.

I suppose if you missed out on the Kato versions with the ESU Loksound installed then the Athearn locos would be a good option for you.

I DO like sound, other modelers, not so much. There's no way to evaluate the sound on a particular model that is still a year away from being available.

I have a pair of the Kato models with coreless motors on each truck and with the ESU sound I am quite happy with those and won't be looking at replacing them anytime soon.

Out of curiosity, what makes you think that?

My knowledge on how new models are produced is very limited, but I would think if they created the 3d CAD drawings for a shell, personally, that would lead me to believe that these aren't related to the BB model. I don't believe Athearn had CAD drawings of the original BB shell, since that was made so long ago.

That, and the fact that the chassis looks like a totally new diecast piece leads me to think this is mostly new tooling.

Although Im not sure how they could make a new tooling so fast, given the announcement and order due date.

Either way, these locos look really good, Im sure Amtrak fans will be excited! Too bad I don't model the modern era :(

I like sound. I like P42's.

I also like that these will have the upgraded LED lighting.

I missed the Kato with ESU run.

I bit already on a pre-order for these. (Hopefully I will have a permenent income by then....)

You can see for yourself, beginning at 17:05

They explain that the chassis is new, the rest they are calling an "upgrade".

Ah, that makes sense, I had no clue athearn made those vids, pretty interesting stuff!

Wow, those cad models must have taken ages, lots of planning must've gone in to make models these days.

I guess it is a YouTube copy of their Facebook thing.

Had it not been mentioned in another forum I wouldn't have caught it, either.

So, maybe in five years they'll upgrade the shell. Will it then still be the same model? Kinda' like my dad's favorite hammer — replaced the handle three times and the head twice.

Cheers, Ed

Thanks for the video link Ed.

Boy, did their "3d Model" throw me for a second. I could not figure out what in the world those two round things were, had to wait for the explanation!

Never would have guessed they were BOTH speakers, just seperated and aimed to fire out EACH truck!

Looks like I will be cranking the volume WAY DOWN on this bad boy. Else everyone else will be like Headphones

Nah, I think one of them is a mini biscuit! Who would be crazy enough to add a SECOND speaker for even more volume?

But seriously, why couldn't they swap out one speaker for like a keep alive(current keeper) or something?
