Limestone is too heavy to be loaded that high in a hopper car, limestone is much heavier than coal and so the car would be about 3/4's full rather than at the top of the car.

That is something I have often heard, but not what I have seen. When I was working in the Florida Rock Industries Limestone Quarry on Alico Road in Fort Myers, I know they loaded limestone all the way to the top. I do not know if they used special aggregate cars, or what the details were.

I know my overall exposure to prototype railroading is very small, so a lot of what I see is not the actual normal way of doing things.

It is not unusual for me to see a hopper car fully loaded with rock when I am out train watching. Again, I do not know the details about this load or the freight car hauling it.

I am fortunate enough to have a fine looking (and operating) Stratton and Gillette Comet Freight refrigerator car, reporting mark SGRT 65138.

If I am remembering correctly, that was the one with the sea-fish in the herald. That was the only one I decorated like that. I switched to a snowflake for all later versions of that paint scheme.

I think this is it:

Here is a heavy industrial scene on the BNSF layout in the Chicago Museum of Science And Industry.

Kevin: "More heavy industry, please."

Its been more than a day since the last post. Soooo...

The largest, not necessarily heaviest, industry on the BRVRR is The Farmers Union Elevator.

More industry, heavy or otherwise, please.

I took my eldest grandson to the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry via AMTRAK from Elyria several years ago. He spent most of the day watching the trains on the BNSF layout. I had to drag him away to see the U-505 and the rest of the wonders in the museum. A great time!

There are a few photos of our June 2008 visit on the Railroading page on my website.

Kevin: "Show me another "B" unit, (it is OK if an "A" is attached."

New York Central A/B set #1855 and #2425 started as Athearn kits in Burlington Northern and Canadian Pacific liveries respectively. There is a sound decoder in the "B" unit which is electrically coupled to the lead engine which has its own decoder.

Let's continue with the "B" units.
