Amtrak stuff coming from Walthers and possibly Athearn
Posted by emdmike on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 4:07 PM

Seen where despite previous statements, Walthers is kicking out some fresh Amtrak stuff this year.  Then I have seen posts that Athearn has some supprises for later this year in reguards to Amtrak stuff(maybe a Genesis redo of their P40/42 GE diesels??)  Where are our Amtrak modelers here and your thoughts and what would you like to see offered that either needs done or revamped?  I would like to see Rapido rerun their F40ph engines and offer the windshield screens as a seperate sale part so those with other brand F40's can have the guards.  While I use older stuff to model Amtrak, I enjoy seeing whats new and may go with newer Amfleets from Walthers since they have LED lights and people in the deluxe editions.  Where as the brass ones I have been looking at lack any interior at all.    Here is my old PFM/Samhongsa F40hp.     Mike the Aspie

I don't have a lot in the way of Amtrak equipment right now, but I'd like to see a GE P30CH in HO scale from somebody like Walthers or Athearn. No one seems to make one of these locos that I'm aware of.

Is there a link to what Walthers is planning to offer?

My interests are the Amtrak San Francisco Zephyr SFZ) and the Amtrak California Zephyr .  The SFZ was pulled by  SDP40Fs, supplied by Athearn Genesis.

What I need from Walthers is a Phase 3 Budd 73' baggage as those are short in supply and go for silly high prices.  I also need a phase 3 Amtrak bilevel ex-El Capitan coach dorm.  They've done phase 2 but afaik, never done phase 3.  Those ran on the Superliner equipped Amtrak CZ.

Walthers put out one of thier E flyers with all the Amtrak stuff shown.  Somebody posted to Athearn's FB page asking them if they were gonna jump on the bandwagon and put out some fresh modern power and they replied they had some supprises for the Amtrak modelers in 2020...stay tuned.  The the Genisis Genny has been discussed several times I guess.  So that is the asumption is that a new and better version in thier top Genesis line is coming. Look at the flyer on the left side of the Walthers page.  The Amtrak stuff is in there, F40's and cars

I would like to see Athearn update their P42, but with the SC-44 Chargers soon to replace the P42's, i think i would just save my money and wait for the new Bachmann ones. Im all for more rolling stock though. I really hope Walthers do a rerun of their Viewliners and maybe some California cars. Those are the two that come to my mind that are lacking in H0 scale...
