 Afternoon Diners!

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer Ed a Crown Royal and Dirk half a dog treat.

Quite day here at the home. While we did go for a drive to the local park to walk Dirk the closest I came to a human was 20 feet plus. Went to the local Walmart Market just to see what kind on maddes might be taken places with them only letting a limted number of people. Nothing really looked diffrent and we left with out getting out of the car.

Best New's I have gotten today? I checked my E-Mail and the Mighty PRR I1sa has shipped from BLI! Big Smile Confused Hum, how long does it take for a virus to die on a steam engine anyway? Whistling Smile, Wink & Grin

Later Ken and Dirk say's "Can we sit on the pouch Daddy, Woof, Woof!

Edit I see I am the top of the page. Drinks are on my tab Flo.

We just had some isolation fun.

My three daughters, their husbands, all the grandkids, and us, used ZOOM to meet at once.

It was a little like the opening screen of "The Brady Bunch".

Fun.

Those on their phone said it wasn't as good -- again, the screen only displayed a few pictures, while on my computer screen, I could see everyone at the same time.

I'm amused that someone in the OT Coronavirus thread is upset because it has gone even more OT strayed into a discussion of cell phones.  An OT thread can't stay on topicBig Smile

Someone I know, who would not make this up, told me that the traffic jam to pick up ones family remains at the crematoriums in China is 6 miles long.

Did a lot of dog walking today, the weather was very nice.  3.7 miles according to the iphone

I'm happy that your day was made.  I should point out that the OT coronavirus thread is the designated/approved OT thread and should therefore not be considered OT.  Besides, all the OT posts to the non-OT thread were the same old, same old blather that has already been posted to this thread, the original OT thread.

And I happen to know that the "upset" individual was not necessarily upset.  The virus has made him a little more cranky(er) than usual and it made him feel a little better to get it off his chest rather than just stew.

On the virus front, we now have 5 confirmed cases in the township.  Countywide there have been 266 confirmed cases out of about 2350 tests. There have also been 2 deaths.  I think both of the dead individuals were male in their 80's with "underlying nedical conditions".

My wife is recovering well from her broken wrists, enough to sew.  She made up a bunch of those masks that fearless leader now says we should wear.  Today we gave them to the three neighbors who brought food over immediately after her accident.  Also made them for us.

Went to the pizza place yesterday late afternoon.  They don't have drive thru, but they opened a window and put up a little awning so they could provide take out.  Folks were lined up along the curb in an orderly fashion, everyone the requisite distance apart.  Looked like a string of boxcars on a siding.  Of course I was the only one with a mask.  Anything to make the boss happy.

Completed the installation of the last tub grab bar.  As I was cleaning up I saw a couple unused items from the installation that appear to be good candidates for flat car or gon loads.

I don't think the virus is going away soon.  To quote Admiral Painter:

"This business will get out of control.  It will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it".

We had another happy hour today, after the last one on Friday got cancelled for low temperature and high wind.  The community used to have happy hour every Friday, but that's a casualty.  We held it today because the weather is beautiful and it's Amy's birthday.  She is isolated from her family by geography, and we thought she deserved a bit of a party.

Outside on the driveway, fewer than 10 people, seated six feet apart.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

maxman,

I guess I missed you mentioning that your wife had broken her wrists. I'm very sorry to hear that, but I am glad to hear that she is recovering. Wish her well for us!

I have seen several examples of people who are still following traditions like birthday parties and street parties but they have adapted them to reflect the current reality. In the last few weeks in our area there have been several 'drive by' birthday celebrations. I also saw a street party in a seniors' complex where everyone stayed in front of their own homes. Lots of fun but no close contact.

Glad to hear your wife is recovering. My wife has been sewing masks for almost two weeks now. Ran out of 1/4" elastic twice. I think her count is up to 200.

Reminds me of The Great War when housewives were making bandages for the Red Cross. We've come a long way in a hundred years Whistling

Unlike the same fearless leader, if I have to go out I'll wear a mask. So far, I haven't had to leave the property since Feb. 29, thanks to Amazon, eBay, USPS, UPS and FedEX.

I hope everyone is well. One of the fellows on the PRR discussion forum is suffering from the virus. Probably no hope for recovery. Family can not visit him.

Things sure change in a hurry!

Off to the basement I go — For some reason I'm in the mood to watch Hunt For Red October ?

My beloved sister in law Carole is being tested for breast cancer. She is the same person who's husband was murdered in Columbia 1 1/2 years ago. She doesn't deserve this (not that anyone does). I am heartbroken and scared. I love her dearly. The forums won't let me say what I think about the big corporations who profit at the expense of peoples' lives.

My thoughts are with you and your family, Dave. I'm sorry to hear that news. Hopefully she can overcome this. There's no rhyme nor reason some individuals have to bear so much when others seem to be immune to any adversity.

Does Carole live near you?

Unfortunately not. She is in Vancouver and we are in Ontario. Her closest family is 800 kms away in Alberta. To add insult to injury she has a daughter who has severe mental health issues which cause her to constantly be very nasty to her mom.

Life is not fair!

Thank you for your thoughts Ed!

Mornin'....

Just checking in to see if anyone missed me.....  Zoe, I could use a refill of my dark roast coffee in a O&W Mug please.

Sun is shining outside here in the Finger Lakes and I.....  May for the second year in a row....  May be the first in the neighborhood to mow lawn.  Shhheeeeesh!  I never fertilize or kill weeds or anything like that.  Don't see any reason to buy poisons to put on it.  So...  Being the one around here who absolutely hates to waste time mowing have the greenest and fastest growing lawn in town!  Oh well, I will at least get to show off my EGO Electric lawn mower in action when folks are out walking (6' apart, of course) in the neighborhood.

At least the sun is finally decided to shine for part of today.  Tonight I have a Martin Luther King Committee meeting to attend (Via Zoom).  We will be deciding how to handle our scholarship work this Spring since we won't be able to have the Sholarship Dinner at all.  The Dinner is our major fund raiser for the committee that pays the bills for the year.  Our Scholarship Fund Drive in the Fall goes 100% towards the Scholarships.  Could be a long Zoom Meeting and I am hoping to either talk by phone or meet with Zoom with my Lady Friend after that.

Take care out there and stay safe!!!!!

Good morning

I have sore clutch muscles in my upper left leg that I never knew I had before.

It was such a beautiful bright sunshiny day yesterday.  Judy and I went cruising around in the Mustang for 5 hours.

We went Park hopping and took brakes.  The river was a little high.  If you look at the bents (piers?) being built,  the one finished and the one with the jacket on it by the barge crane is where the channel goes through.

The water in the parking lot behind the car was only an inch deep.  I told Judy I wanted to park in the water and take a picture like my car can drive on water.

She said are you kidding me,  you haven't let a drop of water touch your car in 30 years and you're going to start now.  I looked at her like thisIndifferent and said, yeah you're right.

I installed a flux capacitor in the Mustang this morning and drove back into the past to look up Doc Brown.

Image from Back To The Future lll

He is going to meet us all up here on Friday with the Steam Engine and the DeLorean to take us all three months into the future so we don't have to deal with this CRAP anymore.

Do you think three months will be enough or should we go for four?

Good Morning All,

TF - I hope three months is enough. With all racing shut down, we only have half the usual work booked so even when we are ok to go back it will be slow.

I'll have a regular to go please Zoe.

After chores yesterday I spent a few hours on the layout. I took another crack at the downtown scene but no great inspiration yet. This shows what I can get on one street. The main street is also a State highway and is even more awkward as I can really only get stuff on one side of it and everything is angled. Eventually it will fall into place. The buildings are all recycled at this point from the last layout and included when I opened the box "Elliots Diner" named after a previous version of this virtual diner.  Catch y'all later.    J.R.

Hey everyone.  I finally got around to doing a video of my layout so far.  What do you all think?

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway.  As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).

Thanks Jimmy!  You are ambitious.  That's a big layout.  I wish I had the room you have to build!

I noticed towards the end of the video there's quite a high elevated section.  What are your plans there?

Well, that elevated section was my dad's, before he passed.  He was modeling the Rio Grande in HOn3, but only got one section done- the wooded area in the last few seconds before returning west.  The plan is, Im removing the elevated grade carefully (hand laid track, trying to preserve it), and build on the benchwork he built.  The finished section will be saved and preserved.  A little tribute to his modeling.

I LOVE that movie.

I actually phonetically memorized the words to the Soviet National Anthem so I could sing along with that iconic scene!

"Let them sing"

November 2016 was a good month but I'm trying to piece together the reasoning, so help me out here.

A)  The Cubs win the World Series for the first time in 108 years.

B)  A very good year for the Breeders Cup.

C)  14000 viruses were found in invertebrates.

D)  [deleted by admin]

E)  Another leap year adding an extra day to the calendar year.

F)  Robert Petrick begins the thought process of planning one of the best bridge scenes everYes

G)  all of the above.

Oh what the heck, at this point we might as well have Doc Brown take us back to April 10th 1970 on Friday.

That way we will all be 50 years younger with the same brains we have now and have a brand-new 46 years to get back to November 2016Yes

I searched my approximately 1500 DVD's that are alphabetized to look for The Hunt of Red October.  It didn't ring a bell and I don't have it.

I did find it on Amazon Prime but it does not have a free ribbon.  I love Sean Connery. Do you recommend I spend the 4.99?

Yes! Some great lines in that movie.

Ambassador Andrei Lysenko: There is another matter... one I'm reluctant to...

Dr. Jeffrey Pelt: Please.

Ambassador Andrei Lysenko: One of our submarines, an Alfa, was last reported in the area of the Grand Banks. We have not heard from her for some time.

Dr. Jeffrey Pelt: Andrei, you've lost another submarine?

Not far behind are Crimson Tide; Run Silent, Run Deep, U-571, Das Boot, Gray Lady Down... Any more?

You will not regret it! It is $2.50 for me on Amazon Prime. OR get the DVD for $10 and get Sum of All Fears, too.

I wonder if I can install a periscope in the basement so I can stay down there 24/7 and just take a peek at the surface every now-and-then?

Cheers, Ed

I have Crimson Tide, U-571 and the whole Indiana Jones box set.  I also stumbled across 3:10 to Yuma.  Russell Crowe and westerns with an old train are good, so that one is on deck.

maxman,  Robert Petrick posted his magnificent bridge scene he constructed in WPF this week.  That was my way of complimenting him late.  Sorry about the confusionWhistling

Yes, I was valuable for awhile.  Now that she is getting along much better I have been re-relegated to the box with the break glass in case of emergency sign over the door.
