Hello again!

One of my favorite "hangouts" is the Re-Store operated by the Habitat For Humanity folks. You never know what you'll find there. I came across this neat little shelf which I presume is for displaying golf balls (see the little divots on the underside of the top shelf?)

I gave it some thought and came to the conclusion that it would make a decent shelf for rolling stock   Paid all of $4.00 for it!

It actually solved a quandry I had. I wondered how to deal with "Bad Order" cars I come across sometimes. Cars with drooping couplers, broken grab irons, etc. Now I have a place to set them while waiting for time to deal with the issue.

Earlier in the week I finished up installing a sound decoder and LED lights in this A-B pair of Penn-Central F7s. Any guess which railroad P-C bought them from?

As if I really need another painting project — not! I managed to get a pretty good deal on this Overland, New York Central H-10b Mikado.

ED: Thank you for starting us off this week. That shelf for $4.00 was quite a score. Our Habitat Re-Store in Fort Myers gets in amazing things every once in a while. That Overland brass locomotive looks perfect. I have two Overland brass diesels, and they run great.

I have one new boxcar to share this week. This is lettered for the LAKE SHORE railroad using a custom set of decals that was offered by the Lake Shore Model Railroad Club.

I finished this car last weekend before the chaos of this week at work. I probably won't have anything to share in WPF for the next couple of weeks.

Ed, thanks for starting us out, I have been trying to get one of those engines on E-Bay but the price just keeps going up and up. Good find!

Kevin, thanks for another good fictitious road!

I got a couple of cars done this week!

 

Intermountain 1937 AAR Boxcar kit, with the ends from an Intermountain 10' High 12 Panel Boxcar to make it into a postwar 1944 AAR Boxcar as the 1937 car has 4/5 panel ends and the postwar car has a 3/4 Dreadnaught End, also had to remove the top rectangular rib as the CNJ cars did not have them. Also added Yarmouth Model Sill Steps in place of the plastic ones. Car was painted with a mixture of Scalecoat II Roof Brown and Boxcar Red and lettered with Tichy decals. These were originally lettered for the CRP (Central Railroad of PA), but after CNJ lost the court case with the State of New Jersery they were re-lettered.  Used in general service and could be seen on the NKP as they were part of the Alpha Bet route between Chicago and New York City.

 

 

Tichy 53'6" GSC Flat Kit, painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red and lettered with Tichy Decals.  Also added a DUHA plate steel load as the EJ&E was a US Steel road.

 

 

Had my Athearn FP7's at the club last weekend, made up a mail and express train with RPO, 2-R50b Express Reefers, 3-REX Express Reefers, 2-Express Boxcars, a Combine and Coach.

Ed .....  Thanks for starting Weekend Photo Fun. The display shelf looks good. I like the ex DRGW F-units, and the brass 2-8-2. 

Kevin .... Your Lake Shore boxcar looks great. 

Rick .... The CNJ boxcar and the EJ&E flat car are outstanding. I like the Pennsy mail and express train. 

Below are two of the trains I am currently running on my layout. 

Empire Builder with Intermountain F7's meeting a CB&Q freught train with Athearn Genesis F3AB and Athearn blue box dummy F7B (custom painted and detailed). 

Below is a picture of a CB&Q 4-8-2 hauling a heavyweight passenger train.

Harrison, very nicely weathered freight car, very realistic looking.

 

I’m back into rewiring my locomotives so that they are all alike.  These are the first two of my 15 Rivarossi Cab Forwards.  Both have Faulhaber 2224RS motors and wired for DCC operation.

 

 

 

After finishing the wiring I spent several hours doing touchup to the exterior.

 

 

All of my Cab Forwards have a NMRA 8 pin connector mounted below the Monkey Deck for the tender mounted decoders.

 

 

The wiring on the rear driver assembly is an extension cord that plugs into the connector on the main frame so that the driver assembly can be removed for maintenance.

 

 

 

All 15 Cab Forwards have LED lighted number boards and headlights, the marker lamps have 1mm micro bulbs.  The number boards are powered from track power through a DB107 bridge recifier and the headlight and markers are controlled from the decoder in the tender.  I used a LM1117 regulator to drop the voltage to 1.4 volts.

 

 

Only 13 more to go.

Excellent contributions so far, everyone!

Last night I finally got around to setting up a signal to protect the yard-lead out to the main. No detection but a simple SPDT off the Tortoise switch. Many of my other signals are wired to a Signal Animator by Logicrail but this one will not be used too often.

I really should have used an absolute signal here but this one will have to do.

When the switch is lined I get an approach medium to come out of the yard and onto the main. Pretty sure I should remove that number plate, too, as it should not be a permissive signal.

I added a few details on a couple of boxcars finished last year (Trix kitbashes, microscale decals etc...)

A 50's era NP boxcar surviving into the late 60s without a repaint.

And one that got repainted with the large monad logo scheme.

Yes... I have four identical AAR boxcars for the DAWDLE AND DELAY, 2 PS-1s also for the D&D, two boxcars for the CENRAL ALBERTA, Two GERN covered hoppers, Two TURTLE CREEK CENTRAL 40 foot boxcars, and a few others.

Most of my decals come from trades with other modellers with fictitious roadnames. Usually these trades are 1 for 1, so I rarely can decorate two cars the same. I have about thirty sets for the DAWDLE AND DELAY, and Sheldon hooked me up with a generous amount for the ATLANTIC CENTRAL, so the ACR will be well represented in the fleet.

Sometimes I can get two different freight cars from one decal set.

I have over 100 "one off" roadnames.

.

I have dozens of identical STRATTON AND GILLETTE freight cars.

.

I don't post the same paint scheme twice in Weekend Photo Fun. How many times would you want to see another one of these?
