This is the beginning of my second week of unemployment.

I feel great. I am getting plenty of sleep, and all stress is removed from my life.

Last night was the first time since I lost my job that I managed to sleep all night without worrying about something work related. As I have been going to sleep, I have been thinking about annual reviews, payroll approval, quoted work in process, recovery rate, landlord dispute, contractors, schedules, and other things that used to be part of my life.

Last night I just peacefully went to sleep.

I really feel great today.

It doesn't take long, does it?

For me, it took about two days when I retired to forget completely about everything work-related.

Congratulations!

I miss the enviroment and comradery of the big job sites.  I still have the oocassional job site dream.  Sometimes nightmare! Laugh

After I retired, they had a hard time finding finishers for local projects, so for the first year, I did part time, on the days of the big concrete pours.  I love it!

The problem is, the "old" guys can get in the way, no matter how good you think you are, Laugh  I was never disrepected from any of the younger guys, at least not to my face. Laugh

Even today, on the highway, or driving through a town, when I see a construction site, I'm the number 1 rubber neck.  I've been known to pull over and watch a difficult pour or a huge beam being set in place.

Massive formwork, concrete, cranes, concrete pumps, a large crew of men moving in a sorta synchrnized organized chaos, everyone knows their job, no matter how well they all get along off the job, I love it!

But now, retired, I don't have time to go back to work!! Laugh  Too many things to do!

Good afternoon from a pleasant West Coast where it is 8c.

Happy B-Day Ken (a day late, sorry) I have been having gateway timeouts on this forum and it has been hit and miss getting in the last few days.

The wife and I are really sick with bad head and chest colds. Maybe it is corona 19Surprise How would you know without getting tested. Anyway neither one of us hardly ever gets sick and it doesn't slow us down much when we are.

The kids went home Sunday, we had a great week together going out for dinner a few times, saw Star Wars and I got to hear my daughter tinkle the ivories a bunch.Yes The kid was on a brand new 787 Dreamliner for the trip back to Ottawa. With the huge drop in passengers from Hong Kong they canceled his A319 plane and stuffed them onto the 787 from Hong Kong that had a stop in Vancouver. He was way more comfortable on that.

In the meantime, the kid has taken a real hit in the value of his stock portfolio. It should head back up on Thursday if history repeats itself. You don't lose or make money until you sell which he is not doing.

I started a business once that was a license to print money, I hated it as you never could stop thinking about all the things you had to do the next day, No thanks. My partner carried on for 20 years and while he made great money, he had no life and he aged quickly. We started a cedar fencing company modeled after the student painter companies. We had sixteen employees in no time and like I said the $ poured in. Not a life for me.

I never took a promotion at work with the Feds for the same reason. Those guys were wrecks in short order. Even things well beyond their control would haunt them into poor health. Plus we worker bees made way more money than they ever did with all the overtime we got. They were on salary.

MLC, congrats to the wife on her book, things like that make the whole family feel good.

Well, I think I'll get on the couch with the dogs for a while. At least there is a hockey game tonight, the Canucks are in Montreal, that starts in three hours.

Don't even go there!  You are too important to many people around you.  You just have the common flu caught late in the season you unfortunately didn't escape this year.

You and your wife will be just fine.  Don't ask me how I know,  I just do.

Rest up Brent!

I hate them too

Especially the hundred percent organic ones that are earthy.

I plug my nose and drink the juicer Drink that Judy prepares every Sunday, ...... Yuck,  but afterwards my hair feels like it's standing on end and have more energy than I know what to do with.

Beets are a natural blood purifier and flush out your kidneys and your liver.  Don't ask me,  you would have to ask Judy and her grandfather.

Beets were one of the staples in our household. My grandparents grew them by the bushel. Some were pickled and some were put in the cold cellar. If we were really lucky, we would have Harvard Beets with the tangy sauce. My favourite! My wife hates Harvard Beets so we never have them!CryingBang HeadSad

I hate beets but I have them every week because I know the incredible cleansing capabilities.

Asparagus on the other hand.  I eat that like clockwork.  Another body cleanser.  Did you ever pee in the middle of the night after eating asparagus.  You can smell it after you get back to the bedroom,  yuck it must have done something for you while you were sleepingLaughWhistling

I love asparagus.

Kings that were Pharaohs, Space Travelers in UFOs, and Miracle movers of large objects of that time would not lieWhistling

I'm sure they all had better things to do.

I love asparagus.

Now THAT I agree with.  We used to pick it along the country roads. Long ago, I learned that SOME have a problem with you finding THEIR favorite road side patch.  Territorial rights, I guess,  no problem.  Now we buy the organic stuff at our favorite market, when it's fresh.

Mike,  I went to Mound Minnesota with my friend Jeff.

It was a pick your own asparagus Paradise.  You paid for what you picked on your way out.

Jeff and I sampled that raw asparagus in that field that day.  Our stomachs were a little sour by the time we got outLaugh

Talk about fresh asparagus. I've been meaning to go back to that field again somedayWhistling

And I did tip the girl on the way out.  I tip everybody.

Southern Railway acquired EMD SD24's about 1960, and they were used on the Rathole Division in KY and TN. 6309 is an example of one. SOU operated them long hood forward.

GARRY

Hi Garry,  I am aware that the Southern Ran most of their tunnel motors long hood forward. But can you tell me why on a division like the Rat Hole that they would do that.  cough, cough , splutter, sneeze, every tunnel along the route?

 Eveing Diners!

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer and some Birthday Cheese Cake my daughter brought over. Yes, Flo Dirk can have a dog treat.

Far as real retirement more than likely will never happen for me. If my wife goes before me, then I could.

Getting out of real Management, best thing I have done. When I was in charge of 6 state for the company I worked for I could never forget about problems when I got home! Yes the money was good and was how I bought this house. But then I never really had the time to enjoy it. I still dream about working for that company and most of the time they are not good!

Thank you all for the Brithday wishes! Means a lot to me! Big Smile This year I got nothing from the wife or my daughter which I am fine with. Dauther bought me the 32" screen TV last year for Christmas and my Birthday. Wife nevers bought me anything I wanted anyway.

Critters Caught my first Possum today! Ed told me after I get rid of Raccoon's I will get Possum's. So Ed, what comes after Possum's?

It was a smaller Possum and could not bring my self to kill it, so I broke the law. Released it in a wooded area on my way to work today. That way it could get ran over the way God Intended It To Be.

Later, Ken and Dirk say's "I know you got a Possum in the garage, I can smell it, can I play with it Daddy Bark, Bark, Woof, Woof?"

I had no idea, until this week, how much time I actually spent thinking about my job even when I was not working. It consumed everything. Now I am beginning to see through the fog and realizing I have a whole life that needs to be lived.

I love Harvard Beets and Pickled beets.

Ditto Dinner But around here I can only get Yale Beets.

Give me a jar of hard-boiled eggs soaked in beet brine with onions, a couple glasses of Guinness and maybe a chunk of hard salami and I'm good for the night. So is anyone else in a hundred-yard radius Ick!

Ed told me after I get rid of Raccoon's I will get Possum's. So Ed, what comes after Possum's?

You'll get little, black kitty cats with white stripes down their backs.

I've got a trick for handling them. I approach the trap slowly holding up an old shower curtain and drape that over the trap. If they don't see you they [usually] won't spray you. If they do, the shower curtain catches most of the scent.

Here's to 'ya Beer Ed

Good Morning!

I am slowly crawling back into life, after having the worst night of my life. I spent most of the night in the "ceramics department". Only once I didn´t make it there on time Whistling It started with running a slight fever on Saturday, continues with a little higher fever on Sunday and a lot of shivering to make it more enjoyable. The highlight was yesterday night. Petra went to the local pharmacy to get the necessary medications to cope with the symptoms of a noro virus infection. I hope it´ll be over soon, but right now, you could beat me down with a feather.

Work! I have never understood people who dedicate their lives completely to work. Sure, work should be fun and taken serious, but there is so much more to life than just work. Most people find that out when it´s too late, their children grown and having fled the nest.

Beets. Stay away from me with that stuff. My mother used to boil beets, skin, slice them and make us eat them. The smell was revolting.

Ken - a belated Happy B-Day

Happy times!

On this, Ulrich, we agree 100%!  The only thing worse than boiled beets are "Hahvud" beets (barf!) and stewed tomatoes.  Both of which seemed to be mainstays at my houise when I was growing up.  You couldn't pay me to eat any of those revolting, horrid, items!

I should be over at the Fieldhouse running a couple 5ks this morning, but I got word that my new car is being built as I type...  Just went down to my Credit Union to get some pictures of dead presidents to spend and sat and chatted with a former Student of mine about how to make a $$$$ transfer.  I have the paperwork to fill out and later today I hope to be able to go to my insurance agent and have the lady who does my account get me an insurance card listing the new car as of 3/3.  Just got a call from the lady and as soon as I push send I am out the door to get it done!!!
