I don't want to sound like a complainer, but am I the only one who finds the new format for the screen display with the add banner on the right side of the screen really annoying? I understand that MR needs to create revenue, but it's really annoying that suddenly last week they changed the format resulting in the font of the posts are much smaller. Just saying.
It still looks the same on my screen.

The ad banner you mention has been there for quite some time and....YES.....it is very annoying. The font hasn't changed on my end.

One of the pluses of using Firefox with Adblock Plus...ZERO ad banners above or on the side panel.

I've found that it's only annoying until you train yourself to ignore it. I'm not in the mood for buying anything, so have no need to even notice it.

Likewise here...no apparent change at all.

I don't see an ad banner.
As tstage suggested, try Adblock Plus...

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
When I used Fire Fox, there were no ads, empty space below the Search the Community box.
With Chrome, I have ads, but it's no bother. Every once in while, a swim suit ad appears. I've never complained.

Hit control and + at the same time and you can make your font bigger.
I've not noticed any of the changes you mention, however if I purge all my cookies, (whoa flashback to college days) the large banner ad below the title bar contains non model railroading ads.
My fix for that is to go to google and turn off add personalization. I also go to this site and opt out of ads https://optout.aboutads.info/?c=2&lang=EN

I looked at ONE house on Zillow six months ago, and not that is all I ever see. What kind of dominant chromosome is this? All I should ever see are Model Railroad ads like I used to.
You guys get all the fun and I don´t! That´s not fair, but then I run AdBlock+ and Privacy Badger on my computer, which means no unwanted ads and no tracking.
Happy times!

Yup! I really got feed up with Google plastering ads all over the pages for stuff I have not even the remotest of remote interest in.
LION sees no add banners to the right. LION has good ad blocking.
The font is selected by your computer not theirs.
Perhaps you changed 'puters recently?

Yes, well I was using a computer with no ad blocking recent,y. It wanted me to buy adult diapers. I don't know why.
Boiler-manI use Ad Guard to block pup up adds, it is very inexpensive compaired to some of the other ad blockers.
AdBlock+ is a free addidtion to Firefox - how´s that for being inexpensive?

The same app runs great on Chrome, as well.

I use an IPad while sitting in my recliner to read these posts. I did have to get a new one recently and it seems like it started then. But, the banner also shows on my old one. Oh well, certainly not the end of the world, definitely a "first world problem". Because it's the Google app there aren't any settings that I see that I can change
There’s a new ad banner?
Must be I’m so used to ignoring them, I missed it.
Or my pop-up blocker got a bit more aggressive finally....

I use Ad Block. No cost. It annoys many online places. Some will not let me read. Tough. Advertising is really getting annoying lately.

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.
You do relizae that no ads, no money, no money, no forum. By killing the clicks you are killing the forum!
I use Chrome, because it works........with everything.
Yes I have ads above and to the right below the profile menu, etc.
I just ignore them. They do not make the font smaller or effect the screen view for me?
Most of my time on here is using my desktop, with a nice big monitor, but even on my tablet it is not a problem. And on my tablet I also use Chrome (Samsung S4) view the desktop site.

This is only partly true. Nobody minds the ads Kalmbach or any other company catering to our hobby places on the forum pages. It´s those unwanted ads that Google puts in any "free" space they seem to detect on these pages, which are unnerving. This is like someone dumping all of his unsolicited mail in your mailbox.
The "home forum", of which I'm a member, is privately-owned and has no ads whatsoever, and allows photos as attachments. Unfortunately, activity is down, likely due to members being drawn away by sites such as Facebook, etc.
I don't have too much difficulty ignoring the ads here, but google searches are often overrun with them, prompting me to disengage. I find google searches to be getting less and less effective, too, almost a complete waste of time, despite using very precise search parameters.
Part of the situation is that the content in the right bar is being 'served' by googleads as a permitted service by Kalmbach, but the content is derived from doubleclick, the result being that I will never, ever, ever click on anything no matter how attractive or relevant it may be: I will open a separate window, do a Google search, and make sure there's no advertising swill if I see an attractive product or service. I don't mind Kalmbach knowing that, either. I do encourage them to change serving providers as soon as practical.
Understood. However, I neither subscribe to MR nor click on any ads I might see on the forum - i.e. if they were visible. Therefore advertising is a waste of time in either case.
I prefer a cleaner interface when browsing a website and will almost always walk away from those sites that try to force me to "unblock" them to accommodate their advertisers - even if the website has information that I'm looking for. Thankfully MR hasn't gotten to that point yet. Should that change in the future, however, I'll have some considerations to make...

Maybe I don't spend enough time on the web, or maybe its the kind of sites I go to, but ads are just not a problem for me.
I never click on ads, most of the ads not related to the topic of the site, are for stuff I already bought, I don't need more........
I read this forum, I read a tractor forum that is a user owned, paid subscription with no ads.
I go to manufacturer and retail web sites for my work, or to purchase stuff, amazon, Lowes, Home Depot, speciality old house sites, etc.
I pay my bills.
That is about it, I have better things to do, except on my tablet I play Roblox with my 8 year old grandson.......I'm not very good........
I don't see many ads........
