Still waiting for Photobucket to restore my account, so I'll use a Flickr account I've had years, never used, until now.
I've spent about 20 minutes or more on the Trains practice page, can't seam to get anything to work.
Any Flickr users out there that give a push in the right direction?

That's unacceptable, Mike, mine's been working well for a couple of weeks, although newly-added photos no longer go to the first page of an album, as my settings indicate, but rather end-up randomly-placed - fortunately, they're in the right album at least.
You need to contact them. If you need a contact address, let me know via PM.

I can only see one of your tests, which is letters and numbers and clicking on that brings up a pic.
The SHARE ARROW is in the lower right corner of Flickr. A share link looks like this, https://flic.kr/p/NSyPU1 which does not end in a .jpg and cannot be used with the photo icon in the posting window.
Instead use the BB link. copy that and paste it into your post, do not use any icons.
If that shows more information that you like, you can paste the link in wordpad and edit everything out before (img) and after the (/img) The link will have brackets instead of parenthesis. After you trim paste what is left into your post.

Be sure your Flickr preferences are set so that the photo is set for "Public" viewing.
When the share window opens select the BBCode option and choose the size you want to display (MR automatically resizes the photo so a larger size is OK) Then left click once to highlight, then use Ctrl+C (or right click > copy) to copy the highlighted link in the box:

Now, in your reply window back at the M-R forum simply place the text cursor where you want the photo to appear and (Ctrl+V) or "Edit > Paste" to paste the link from Flickr into the reply. Do Not use the "insert picture icon"!
THIS is what YOU will see in your reply:

But once posted the link will point to your photo in Flickr and the photo will appear.

I never noticed the size window. Flickr sent me an email with in the last couple of weeks, advertising their paid version because they lose money. Mostly I use Imgur.
I see no reason why all the free hosting sites might not go the way of Photobucket.

I can agree. My photobucket acount was originally a free one, but eventually my monthly allotment of bandwidth began to be used-up in the first couple of weeks of every month. I didn't have a clue about "bandwidth", but was told that it's what's used when somebody views my photos. I managed to get a record from photobucket that showed where that bandwidth was going. Apparently, while forum users here and elsewhere used a good share of that bandwidth, most of it was being gobbled-up by google "bots", which search for images to illustrate user-searches on google.
Photobucket suggested a basic "paid" account, which offered unlimited bandwidth, and I agreed. It was around $30.00 per year. When they later announced their new pay-a-lot-for-everything programme, many users left. I, instead, contacted them to see if there were any other options, and was told that they would "grandfather" my account, which was due to expire that August, until the end of the year, when new lower-cost options would be offered.Sometime after that, I believe that photobucket either changed hands or changed management, and my renewal for an unlimited amount of bandwidth is a still-manageable $58.00/year.
I believe that I have somewhere around 6,000 photos stored in photobucket, which has used only 6% of my allowable storage space.
While I'm aware that lots of folks formerly with photobucket will not return to it under any circumstances, it's very easy to post photos from photobucket with one simple click there on the "img" line of data, and another click here to insert the picture.
