MDC was acquired by Horizon Hobby in June of last year, and the tooling was moved to the Athearn facility (the latter also being owned by Horizon).

Word from Horizon is the MDC name will be retained.

I understand that MDC has been bought by the same company that bought Athearn. If so, they're probably busy moving everything from Carson City NV to Southern California. I HOPE they haven't ceased production, they're one of the older, more reliable manufacturers in the hobby.

I would think that Horizon Hobby would keep the line going - otherwise why buy it?
The question is will there be price increases? Will they cut back on the products?

Since they shipped everything from Nevada to Athearn in California, it may take them a while to get the line going again. Guess we'll just have to wait and see, since they haven't been forthcoming about their plans.
Enjoy

Athearn has already announced plans to release some of the MDC kits in Athearn boxes, and I think they also said they will be offering others in MDC boxes, probably the older ones. In one of their recent newsletters they stated they had around 145 pallets of MDC stuff in their warehouse that has yet to be sorted. It will be coming eventually, but probably not like we knew the MDC line in the past.

One other tidbit which may be good or bad depending on your point of view is that it appears that MDC car kits will still be produced but the locomotives will be greatly cut back or removed completly. My reading between the lines tells me that the steam is gone except for maybe the ready to run stuff so the shay and likely thhe RS-3 diesel the rest ... who knows[xx(] I was hoping to find a nnew run of thier Atlantic locomotives oh well there's always Ebay[sigh] TB

MDC/Roundhouse has simply been aquired by Athearn. It appears the Nscale part of MDC is moving faster than other scales. The old MDC 2-8-0 will appear under Athearn label in Feb. They also woll produce the short Overton passenger cars. It may take some time for Athearn to manage the combination of both lines.
