Whistle switch 8251-50
Posted by ericl007 on Friday, December 27, 2019 12:34 PM

Hi all, new user here. So i've resurrected some Lionel trains from way past. I have a kw transformer that the horn control is frozen solid and crumbling. I bought a switch 8251-50 to get me going until i can get confident to repair the rectifier with a diode assembly. In any case can anyone send me a wiring diagram on the 8251-50 switch? not understanding why there are 4 wires.

Welcome

.

Maybe someone will be able to answer this for you, but you might have better luck on the Toy Train forums.

I'm sure it's two wires in from the transformer and two wires out to the track.

Actually I found some info around.. Two solid wires to transformer and two wires red/white and red to the tracks, that ought to head me in right direction. interestingly enough while i awaited my switch from ebay i was looking for a way to track test the tender. while running... if you introduce a 9 volt (dc) battery to the tracks the tender activates perfectly.
