Hey all. Time for weekend photo fun. For new posters, this is where we show our projects we are currently working on.
I had to take a break from the URR switcher-bad motor sidelined until I can order a new one. So I did another needed project, Installing ditch lights on a loco. Here id the result.
I like how they unintentionally gave it step lights in the process. So let's see everyone's projects
(My Model Railroad, My Rules)
These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway. As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).
Good day, all.
Thanks for starting things off this weekend, Jimmy. Those ditch lights look nice, all lit up like that .
I've been working on a background building of a rolling mill. I have part of the side open so I'd like a bit of a view into the interior workings. Somewhere in my cluttered shop is the second mill-stand and I can't seem to be able to locate it —
In the mean time I recieved this nifty 20,000 gallon coal tar tank car. A 1970 vintage NWSL car:

The tarnish was pretty bad on it so I gave it a quick rattle-can shot of black primer until I get a chance to do a proper paint job.

I've always liked the hulking look of these behemoths.
On to more great stuff! Ed
Jimmy: I have never attempted ditch lights, heck, I don't even put headlights in my brass steam locomotives. That looks difficult, but the end results sure look good.
Ed: I also have a 20,000 gallon J&L tank car project in the works. Mine is using the Funaro and Camerlengo resin cast tank.
.
I completed a boxcar for the OLDENSBURG AND LAKE RICHELIEU railroad this week. This car joins the O&LR hopper car I completed last year. The O&LR was a railroad that was included on the NEB&W layout in the Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York.
The older hopper car:
Keep the fun coming.

I do recall, Kevin:

At the rate I'm going, I'll be around 85 when I get to that kit so I thought I'd better get a stand-in for now
Cheers, Ed
Ah, yes. In the other thread I talked about how flimsy the resin frames are in the tank car kits.
I am fixing this with the 20,000 gallon tank by using an Athearn frame. It will be more suitable for daily operation. I had to lengthen the frame about 3/4" for the 20,000 gallon tank car. I used parts from a second frame spliced into the middle.
This is where I am at with the project. It will still be a long time before it is ready to show off.
I am going to decorate this one as a tank car for transporting GERN Lightweight Liquid Flux, which is 40% lighter and 10% more flexible than standard liquid flux, for a 50% improvement.
Good morning from partly cloudy and cold Northeast Ohio!
Jimmy, thanks for starting us out, other than my CP Rail SD40-2's I stopped my era prior to ditch lights, so no need to worry about wiring them.
Ed, nice job on painting that old brass car, a couple of club members have those cars from NWSL.
Kevin, interesting cars, and looks like a messy job doing that resin kit, I understand that F&C may have made a copy of the NWSL car for their kit.
I only got one thing done this week!
KATO SD-45 with added lift rings, signal box on the short hood, moved the grabs on the short hood from the engineers side to the fireman's side due to the signal box. Added a DA early MU Box to the front of the unit along with MU Cables. Painted the Body with Scalecoat II Engine Black and the trucks and fuel tank with Scalecoat II Grimy Black. Decaled with Microscale decals and used MV lenses for the Red class lights.
Pulled an old picture of my NYC Bowser C-430's with a Flexi-Van train.
Thanks for looking!

Rule 3: Illuminating discussion of prototype history, equipment and operating practices is always welcome, but in the event of visitor-perceived anacronisms, detail descrepancies or operating errors, consult RULE 1!
Rick I love the SD45s, they are my favorite locomotives.
i recently installed new backdrops, and started laying track this week. Im having a lot of fun right now!
Here is my first purchased D&RGW its a BLI SD9 (I have 3 of them).

Kevin- That reminds me of one of my favorite shortlines, the New York and Ogdensburg. Nice work on the car, and I like the GT-inspired logo.

Jimmy .... Thanks for starting Photo Fun with your lighted locomotive. Nice .
Ed .... Your tank car model is very impressive.
Kevin .... The boxcar and the hopper look great. The tank car project looks fun.
Rick ..... Outstanding detailing of the SD45. Also, the Alco's look very good.
Michael ....... I like SD9's and yours looks very good.
...
My contribution. ..... I have owned the Walthers Santa Fe Super Chief since they first released it about 15 years ago. Mine has been in its original boxes for all of those years. ...... Recently, I took it out of the boxes to run it. I'm using my Proto 1000 FM Erie Builts (also about 15 years old) . .... I am having many problems. The train uncoupled and derailed many times on its first trip. .... I replaced plastic couplers with Kadee #5's. Next the train derailed on curves with diaphragms too tight and rubbing together. I changed to long shank couplers on one end of each car which gave enough coupling distance. I still had some derailing, and so loosened the truck screws so they could pivot more freely. ... Now the train will run around the layout. .... I am just beginning to add grab irons and details Wlathers privided for each car. ...
Later, I will add Walthers sleepers to the train. I have three extra already. The original Walthers 8-car train only has two sleepers. .... An alternative locomotive set I have also owned for about 15 years is a Stewart F3 ABBA. Eventually, I may use those F3's instead of the FM's.

Good stuff all. Keep it coming
Great stuff everyone! I have not had a chance to do much modeling, but today we were going past Albany and stopped in Selkirk to railfan. It was getting dark, but it was nice to catch a couple SD40-2's.
Jimmy, Thanks for lightin' up the WPF with your illuminating loco project.
Still got the rolling stock weathering fever.
Thanks to all the contributors and viewers, have a good weekend and regards, Peter
Thanks for getting things rolling,Jimmy!
Still working on lights for the layout. Just about done - for the time being,at least - I'm getting tired of soldering teeny wires together.
Added lights to the yard office and edge of town:
Also added LEDs to another house and the garage/workshop:
Thanks, everyone, for your contributions - have a great weekend!
Mike
Jimmy, thanks for starting this week's best thread on the forum.
There are so many great projects. You guys really keep me inspired to work at this hobby.
I'm just about finished with my N Scale scratch built Cracker Barrel restaurant. We can't go on any road trips unless my wife is able to stop at a Cracker Barrel.
The rocking chairs are from Gold Medal, and I ruined a few until I figured things out.
Thanks again for all the pictures!

Thanks for starting WPF Jimmy. Always enjoyed.
You're making me hungry John, and it is time to eat.
Good job on the Cracker Barrel. The rocking chairs were a nice finishing twist.
I think your wife's on the right page. The Cracker Barrel does a pretty good job on Southern food. I doubt if they have Kevin's dish there though
As always thanks for posting. I always enjoy looking at everyone's work. I don't think a weekend goes by where I don't get some kind of inspiration or ideas here.
I sure enjoyed the night pictures Mike. Great job everyone!

Thank you to everyone that conrtributed to Weekend Photo Fun.
This has been a great weekend. I am hating to see it end.
