old walthers TT rubbing
Posted by gregc on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 4:56 AM

i was given an old Walthers turntable with a geared, belt driven stepper motor drive.   The drive runs quietly and smoothly but the bridge catches on the pit wall

i know the older W TTs are infamous for being somewhat warped.   I think the bridge is designed with too tight a fit.   I also think the wall is tapered and may rub more on the bottom of the bogey.

sanding both the bogies and the pit wall have made an improvement, but wondering if this is the conventional approach for correcting this problem, if it's better to sand the pit wall or the bogey, or if there's another approach?

i'm just playing with it on the bench.   Wondering if when mounted, some shims could be used to correct the roundness of the pit?

I don't have a turntable, so I can't help there. But, maybe me bumping your post to the top will get the attention of someone who can help.
