When your job has to "upgrade" from Windows 7...
Top of page drinks on me!
Steve
If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough!
Good morning, everyone. Nothing but coffee this morning, Sunday is donut day.
Not much going on here. Painting a layout building today.
Ulrich, how is your arm? Hope you get relief.
Timmy, hope you enjoyed your day with your "happy" wife. I get those every-so-often, but not often enough to figure out a cause or reason.
Henry and Ken, I'm a little like you with computers. I buy one, getting it working, and then keep it until it won't go anymore. My kids always buy the latest and greatest.
Ed, the video of the Highline is neat. This has all been done since my last trip to NYC. Maybe it's another reason to visit again.
Kevin, I know that it's usually work for you, but your travels sure are interesting. With my job, it was traveling once or twice a year to a hotel meeting room, then immediately back home to work. I know that work travel is sometimes not fun, but from my side the grass looks greener.
herrinchoker, hope your sense of balance gets better. I had dizziness once and got very sick to my stomach. I hope there's some relief in your future.
Well, it's time to leave for church. Have a good Sunday, everyone.
York1 John
Good Afternoon!
I missed my big Sunday breakfast today! Well, I´ll try to compensate that. Time for coffee and Lebkuchen - a special Christmas time treat!
Yummy!
York1Ulrich, how is your arm? Hope you get relief.
Not much of an improvement, but the pain is down to a level I can cope with, without having to call out the cavalry to ride in terms of medication.
I am spending more time and more house hunting online. Talked to our friend down south to win her over to buying two smaller properties in the same area. We may need a small lown from her to get the bank to finance the venue for us. She actually seems to quite like the idea. There are a number of eligible properties with that typical Danish character we are going for. Well, no matter what comes out of this effort, it is another alternative. By June next year, we want to be out of here - latest!
Happy times!

NWP SWPWindows 10 is an OK OS, 7 is widely regarded as "better" even though its older, sadly 7 is to be no longer supported as of 01/14/20, so at work we'll be going to 10 soon, and I'll probably be elected to show everyone how to use the new OS, YAY!
I currently run 7 on my PC in my office. I'll just get a new computer, probably in March. Our daughter is the IT person for a huge school district, and she advised me to get the new computer no longer than 6 months after the end of support. My laptop runs 10, so I'm pretty familiar with it.
Good luck with switch
This is our last weekend in the WI. north woods, shutting our cabin down for the winter on Monday. It cost too much to keep it heated year around.
Have a great Sunday!

Windows 10 isn't that hard, except for my network issue. I would not keep a Win98 computer.
Dizziness: I went through a spell where I would move my head slightly or even just move my eyes slightly and get extremely dizzy. After the zillion dollar work up, they sent me to physical therapy.
I had to look up, down, left right, upper left lower right, upper right lower left by moving my head or just by moving my eyes. They had me walk forward and backward looking up down, left right.
There were some manual exercises of moving things from a shelf to a table and back, and balance exercises, standing on one leg, or standing on a half dome. It was a cure!. If I detect any dizziness, I do the eye exercises for a couple minutes and I good for months.
As we get more sedentary, we lose more muscle strength than we realize. It's been decades since we played football, soccer or were on the floor wrestling with our brothers or on the floor playing with our children. But we still think we can climb up on the roof and clean the gutters. Not a good idea.

cudaken Computer Wars. I think I have found a solution for myself. Only area that my old XP computer was letting me down was on line. Far as my booking and records I keep it is still fast. New computer with Widows 10 is fast on line but the rest of it sucks rail spikes. So I am going to buy what is called KVM Switch. Will let me go from one computer to the other one. That way I don't have to learn Windows 10 in detail and can shop on line. Newegg has one at $16.99 plus $5.99 shipping.

Instead of buying that KVM switch, try downloading a program called VM Virtual Box. Its by Oracle (the same company that makes Java, I believe) and is completely free and safe. It allows you run any OS you want from a base OS. And you don't even have to boot into it! So if you downloaded this on Windows 10, you could make a virtual Windows XP and run both at once.
I'm beginning to realize that Windows 10 and sound decoders have a lot in common. There are so many things you have to change in order to get them to work the way you want.
York1Kevin, I know that it's usually work for you, but your travels sure are interesting. With my job, it was traveling once or twice a year to a hotel meeting room, then immediately back home to work.

My job does not require travel for very many meetings. I usually do scheduled events and various other presentations. This allows me a lot of non-stress travel and time for other fun stuff while I am away.
Continuing with the diner sightseeing cruise in Georgia. It is now Sunday in Atlanta. I decided to stay close to the hotel today, and see what I could find interesting in Atlanta.
I just drove around with no destination in mind to see what I would run into.
On Moreland Avenue, which is US Route 23 in Atlanta, I stumbled into an actual functioning four screen drive in Theater. On Saturdays and Sundays they have a flea market. I stopped in. Entrance fee was 50 cents to get into the flea market, that was strange. I walked around for an hour or so. It was more like a bazaar than a flea market, but it was some good people watching.
Then I rode through some of the older parts of town. There are a lot of murals painted on the sides of buildings. This one really caught my eye. It is “Puddles Pity Party”, a singing clown. I Cosplay as puddles sometimes, and this is quite a good likeness of the character.
I ate at Zesto’s for lunch. They have some of the best “Broasted” chicken to be had. I try to get to Zesto’s at least once every time I am in Atlanta.
I did happen upon a MARTA commuter train. I love the rust stains running down the concrete retaining wall beneath the tracks. This would probably not look realistic if it was duplicate on a model railroad, but it sure makes an interesting scene in real life.
Tomorrow I need to go back to work.

Living the dream.
During one of my usual browsing sessions I came upon this amazing collection of railroad artifacts from the estate of the late Ed McHugh of Massillon, Ohio.

Some of the items are more in the line of museum pieces.
Twentieth Century Limited tail sign and platform carpet! Amazing. Lots of other rare items and excellent photos of same. Drum heads, station signs, telegraph and signal equipment — fantastic.

Pretty Good Day. Sue and I took Dwight our 92 year old neighbor to breakfast this morning my treat. He has been out of the nursing home for 2 weeks. Doctor has told him he cannot drive any more. To bad he bought a new Lincoln last year. While I like to stay home, I cannot imagine not being able to drive.
Ed Reason I called was to ask about the Pargon 3 PRR Shark nose. I was thinking about a A and B dummy unit. I was wondering if they be able to pull 9 Bachmann Heavy weight passnage cars. I know it is like asking how long is a pices of string. They are not real hard pulling cars, but I have had better.
Far as 2 montiors I have thought of that. But I would all so need two keyboard's and two Mouse's. Just dont have the room. I did order a KVM switch today with shipping and ILL sales tax's it came to $23.88.
BNSF UP and others modelerInstead of buying that KVM switch, try downloading a program called VM Virtual Box. Its by Oracle (the same company that makes Java, I believe) and is completely free and safe.
BNSF I will keep that in mind. Problem is I do not have current soft ware like words and such. Every time I try to down load Open office or the program that Lion said to use I am taken to Microsoft creat a account site?
Steven I still have a Flip Phone! All I need I believe. But then again I did not want a faster computer either.
Later, none smoking Ken and Dirk say's Woof, Woof.

Good morning. I'll have the usual - bacon, eggs, and coffee.
Forty-one years ago in New Orleans, we walked down the church aisle together. My wife-to-be had reminded me every hour for two weeks not to forget to bring her wedding ring to the ceremony. I didn't forget. She forgot my ring. We borrowed my brother's wedding ring for the ceremony. I haven't thought about that for 41 years.
We aren't doing much other than going out to eat. We'll see all the kids and grandkids next week for Thanksgiving in Texas.
Hope everyone has a good day.
Good Evening!
I think we have to drop the plan of finding a home in Denmark, which is suitable for two parties. The homes on the market are either to far away or way too expensive. While I am not dropping the idea from our line of thinking, it is the time to come up with a plan B for our move to Denmark. After quite a long telephone conference with our friend down south, we came up with the following idea:
We have to find a home for Petra and I on a property large enough to build a second, small house on it ( a kind of in-law house). Our friend will give us a small loan, enabling us to buy the property. We will than split the land and sell one part to her, thus paying back the loan. She will, under my supervision, have a house build on her part of the land, in which she will move after it is finished, then selling her second apartment in Germany. We will each have our own, separate properties. The drawback is Petra and I need to get a small bank loan. Whether that´s possible will be subject to a lot of research on my side. Keeps me busy the next days...
cudakenSteven I still have a Flip Phone!
We don´t have even that. No need for a mobile phone.

Those BLI Sharks are pretty good pullers, Ken. I replaced my dummy B units with powered ones but I think I still have a dummy around, besides yours truly

I hope everyone here is doing well. Things are beginning to get back to "normal" around here. I haven't had much train time lately and I need an infusion
Cheers, Ed
Howdy ....
We're still extremely busy. My wife's elderly Mom has been in a nursing home all year. Family members are taking care of her affairs in the meantime. It's a lot of work for everybody.
Saturday, we made an emergency trip back to Nashville. Shelley's Mom had mulitple strokes and was in ER. That evening, our brother-in-law also went to ER. He has a serious infection. which is dangerous because he recently had open heart surgery to replace two valves. .... Each is in a different hospital. MIL is stable, and being treated with blood thinner, feeding tube, etc. .. BIL might have to have surgery to replace the heart valves again.
Probably, I will not have much time to contribute to the forum for the rest of this month.
I hope each of you are dong well.

If possible, get an 'open' loan so that you have the option of paying it off early, and then pay it off as quick as possible. Never, never miss a payment, even by a day!!!!! Now is your chance to establish a good credit rating, or a bad one.
Lecture over!
Good Morning All,
A regular and two over easy with rye bread please Zoe. Garry - sorry to hear of your family health problems. Our Prayers for you an yours.
Back from Daytona. A bittersweet weekend for us there. Weather was awful with temps in the 50's a raw wind but the rain held off for the races though we lost much of Friday includin night practice. No sense practicing on a wet 200mph track. The Classic 24 is run over a full 24 hours but the format is each cclass gets a 42 minute race 4 times over the 24 hour period. Our race group was the first out so we had the cars on grid 2 hours before the start for driver interviews and a fan walk which is good fun. We ended up qualifying 1 2 4 6 with the Pescarolo my son crews on pole, the Peugeot 908 second, the second Pescarolo 4th and the Audi R-8 I crew for in 6th. After a great battle we finished 1, 2, 3. The bittersweet part? We were running 1, 2, 3, 4 midway in the last segment when the R-8 suffered a catatrosphic failure of the rear wing mount and spun to a stop fortunately while we were under a full course caution. The tail lifted and the wind blew it to smithereens but the driver is fine and except for the body damage from the spin, the rest of the car is fine. We couldn't continue because the departing tail knocked the shift mechanism on top of the gearbox at the back of the car and it wouldn't shift. So after a great run, just ashes in the mouth. The car remains in Florida getting prepped for Sebring while our contacts at Audi Sport NA work on an upgrade for the wing mount. Turns out the part has a history and we can now with newer carbon fibre technology make it stronger. There were a few crashes while the car was active in pro racing due to the mount but we no longer need to save every ounce possible so we will reinforce the part where it fails. It's quite a complicated piece so i doubt it's practical to remake them but if it turns out we can, we will.
Time to get after it in the shop. Ciao, J.R.
J.R.
I never noticed what type of cars you worked with until now. I'll just go back to my corner of the diner and sulk out of jealousy. Second only to Formula 1 for dream vehicles I would love to drive and likely never will.
Flo, I need a stiff drink please. Just don't tell my boss as I'm still working.
Mike
J.R. do you guys ever need drivers?

I only live a couple of hours from Sebring. If I am in Florida I might need to make the trip over.
Kevin,
We'll be back at the track the weekend of December 4th. Usually on the concrete part of the paddock. J.R.

Back to the Diner and the tour around Georgia this month:
I took off for a drive around the back roads Southwest of Atlanta today.
It is amazing what beutiful scenes rural Georgia has to offer if you are willing to get out and look for them.
Ok, you guys...... Afternoon from the Finger Laks Region of NYS!
Quick inquiry for some of you that go to movies out in the theaters. Later tonight I am charged with coming up with a suggestion for a certain lady friend and I to spend some time Saturday watching a movie in a local theater and then having a dinner in a very nice restaurant in Canandaigua...
So any suggestions from the crowd on what would be good for a couple old pharts (I turn 73 next week and she is 75) to see. We are not into blood and gore or a lot of bad language. Niether one of us finds that "stuff" to be entertaining I think.
Need to get suggestions before I decide what to go see.... If we can't decide on a film we may just spend a couple hours bowling instead and then do dinner.

They are not the newest releases, so you might need to look to find them, but I thoroughly enjoyed both the live action Lion King movie, and Toy Story 4.
Both of these were entertaining from beginning to end.
Good afternoon from the sunny West Coast where it is currently 15c.
Well, I am elated today as I was over at my friends' house and he gave me a substantial gift certificate to the local train warehouse. The gift is nice but the reason for it has made me so happy. He is probably my best friend and when he was in his mid-forties started packing on the pounds big time. Like me, he got married at forty and now at 57 has two young boys but was a heart attack waiting to happen. His Dad died five months after he retired at 62 and I could see the same thing happening to him.
About three years ago he needed to lose about 110 pounds, he was on blood pressure meds along with cholesterol meds and was borderline diabetic heading in the wrong direction. So he asked for help and lost 120 pounds and is off all medications and is fit and healthy and is now coaching his boy's sports teams instead of sitting in the stands drinking pop and eating chocolate bars.
He also needed those little blue pills which was hard to believe given he had a stunningly beautiful slim wife. He no longer needs those anymore either. His wife has been thrilled with his journey and several months ago she asked me what exercises he needed to do to get a six-pack going. I said he already has a six-pack and so does everyone else in the world, he just needs to get rid of the last little bit of goo that is hiding it. Well, that last little bit of goo is gone now and I think we are going to celebrate by doing the "Grouse Grind" before the snow flies up top the mountain. We use to do it as youngsters before marriage and try and break our own records all the time, records will not be broken 40 plus years later, but I think making it up won't be a problem.

My friend was killing himself, now were good. It's a great day.
Garry, when it rains it pours. I am sorry to hear about the troubles piling on for you. Staying well-rested is the best thing you can do to deal with stress. We're thinking of you.
Ulrich, there are many ways to finance real estate that do not involve high-interest rates. I learned all about them at 19 when I bought my first six rental units. Like Canada, Germany's banking industry is probably highly regulated. Canada was virtually unscathed in 2008 when many of the worlds financial institutions tumbled through corrupt practices. A little reading may be required.
Wife is off to do a movie tomorrow with the two pups we still have. Probably about $5000.00 for a long day. I may go to help out, I haven't decided yet. The last one she worked on was one of the Air Bud movies so it has been a while.
Two hours until the Canucks destroy Dallas so that gives me time to wire feeders to the RH parkin spots.
All the best to all.
Brent

I always liked that Canadian Air. Looks good Brent.
The new cook of the family for me is Judy now. It used to be me.
Since the new blood pressure medication and the doctor ordered stuff, I no longer do the cooking and add sea salt or pink himalayan anymore.
Things are a little bland on the front as far as taste goes.
I'm still eating though. I think I'll be all right...... but no delicious anymore
