 Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please and Dirk his Buffalo treat.

Got rid of the 1994 Town Car today. Sold it as junk, I had not driven it for 2 years. Paid $750.00 for the car 8 years ago spent around $2500.00 in repairs and sold it for $155.00 so in the 6 years I drove it cost me $515.83 a year or $9.92 a week. What killed it was the A/C clutch died and did not want to sink and more money.

Getting rid of the inground front. Found a local contractor that might be interseted in the job. Friend call a buddy of his that is interseted. Need to make some call's and send some E-Mails.

All most got rid of the Extra Computers! Bang Head Revive It (company I brought them from threw Newegg) E-mailed me a return tag. Hum, problem was I just printed the E-Mail and not the tag. Bang Head Lugged them to Fed X and it was some what of a pain. That is when I found out I messed up!Sigh

Later none smoking Ken and Dirk say's Woof, Woof

Dang, second day of being on top, Flo there tab's are on me.

Forgot to thank BNSF for solving my network woes.  For reasons I still don't understand, I had to connect my laptop to the desktop via an ethernet cable so it would be able to see it on the wireless network.

No problem! Anytime.Big Smile

Although I do find it interesting that you fixed the problem by connecting the 2 computers through ethernet. I hadn't thought of that. What I meant was to connect the computers to the router with ethernet cables, so in essence, you figured it out by yourslef!Laugh

I'm beginning to realize that Windows 10 and sound decoders have a lot in common. There are so many things you have to change in order to get them to work the way you want.

I did connect via the router.  That was never necessary before Windows 10.  Actually the second laptop, was my wife's and it has never been connected to the Ethernet cable, yet it worked fine with the Desktop.

Like some of electricity, it must be magic. Bang Head

Insomnia sucks!

There are just too many things going around and around in my head for me to find a good night´s sleep! I went to bed at 10pm and woke ab a little more than 2 hours later. I am up since and it is now close to 3.40am.

It´s that unsettle house issue keeping me awake. There are plenty of really nice and romantic places on the market, but just not with two separate units in them. If I could get a loan, Petra and I would love to just find something for the two of us.

This little beauty would cost not more than 200 Dollar a month.

A perfect little cottage for two!

Being poor sucks!

Happy times!

Evening folks,

Ulrich, nice pad, is that $200 USD or?

I have yet to hear from Rod on the status of the club, perhaps I'll give him a call tomorrow.

Still searching for a car but I'm very close if everything lines up right.

I've resumed sending in my resume to companies in search of a second job, I sent it to the HR departments at all the full service hotels in Baton Rouge, the Mariott and the Cook Hotel at LSU are hiring, they pay about $9/hour starting out.

At the Y I've been training one of the new girls from kidzone for front desk, shes picked it up pretty quickly.

Women are by far the most confusing creature to have existed (and I'm sure they say the same about us guys),

So about 3 weeks ago now I apologized to people I've "wronged" including Sydney, well since then she has proceeded to start a conversation with me every time she comes in which is about every day now because she starting working out. Like when she comes in I'll greet her like I do everyone "good afternoon, how are you, ect" and she'll start talking about the shots she just got, or her shoes squeaking, or me doing CPR training.

What's even more entertaining is that apparently I quoted a tv show a few times last week (I don't even remember what the quotes were) and she turned around and looked the quotes up and then brought up that she looked them up and what show they were from.

I'm like what the actual bloody hell is going on? Does she want to be friends again? I don't know so Imma just do me and see what happens.

Well that's all folks!

Hi Steven,

I think you are too close to what is happening to see what is happening! "Looking up your quotes?"  "Talking about CPR, i.e. chest compressions?!?" She's hitting on you my friend! She does want to be friends, and maybe more!

If you do not see her as a suitable mate, I would suggest that you be very careful about how you proceed. If she wants to go out with you and you turn her down flat, she could get real nasty. If you don't want her as a girlfriend, don't send any false messages. Be polite and friendly, but don't encourage her.

On the other hand, maybe she sees you as a way to improve the quality of people she hangs out with. Dianne and I have a long time friend who went to school with Dianne. When Dianne first met her she was about the wildest thing at the high school. She was into drugs and sex and you name it. Amazingly, she decided that she was headed down the wrong road and so she made friends with Dianne's group who were headed in the right direction. She became a very accomplished person and she is great to be with. You can't judge a book by its cover.

There, that ought to confuse the heck out of you! Ask for my advice any time! Just be careful what you wish for!!Smile, Wink & GrinLaughLaughLaugh

Good luck with the job applications and the car!

Dave if I could I'd shake your hand right now!

I appreciate your insight!

Even the girl I was training picked up on it, she was like "what's up you, her, and that little flirtatious conversation?"Laugh

My friend Jacob works in wellness his theory is that she does like me.

Like I said I'll see what happens, if she asks me out I'd be more that willing to give her a chance.

Tried to get some sleep, but wasn´t able to catch more than just an hour on the sofa.

Grrrrr!!!

NWP SWP
Ulrich, nice pad, is that $200 USD or?

That´s correct. $200 is the monthly rate for a 10 year mortgage and loan repayment. You cannot rent anything for that in my country, maybe a garage.

I am at a total loss, when it comes to the slang young folks talk these days. It could be Chinese or Swahili, I wouldn´t be able to comprehend it.

NWP/SWP,

If you ever figure out what women are about---write a book, you will never have to work again!!

Ulrich, At some point I believe things are going to work out for you and Petra. Just hang in there----

Ken,

Have empathy for what you are going through with the new pup-----HA--

Found a Chessie pup in Oklahoma, got a deal on the pup and the mother dog. (Rug cleaner already on hand) Life surely has changed--It was a good addition for my "A" unit. After loosing her son, and her companion dog within a five month time span, she was gradually going into a black funk. The pup, and the mother dog were just what was needed to bring her back out. The pup, Dame Agatha, is a brown tornado, my old dog, Hooper, has finally come to accept the fact that they are here to stay, and has started baiting the pup with toys ( which she readily grabs) and then the house gets turned upside down. Kinda fun to watch.

Have had some interesting things transpire, while attempting to run the old dogs, and get pup back inside, I lost my balance and went head first into the side of the entryway, and knocked myself out. When I came around I had a fan club trying to figure out just exactly what it was I was trying to do----once it was determined that food was not involved, things more or less returned to normal. When my wife returned later that day the  continuous discussion started, and the next day went to the ER and had a scan done to see if I had by chance, damaged my remaining brain cell. Brain cell just fine, however--it was discovered that I have three tumors on my Thyroid Gland----so now I am waiting for an appointment for a biopsy. It is what it is !!--not going to worry about that which I have no controll over. Not exactly making lemmonade, but glad to find out about it now, rather than later.

Strange, walking around the house, or on the property around the house, my balance leaves a lot to be desired, to the extent most times I have to use a cane to get around. Yet on a 45' boat, being thrashed about, I have no problems working on deck. Go figure-----

Finally got the last of my dahlya bulbs out of the ground, about ten hours before the temp. dropped to 15 deg. F.  Next year will only plant about 75 feet of the things. Found some Black Beauty apples, and my wife has put up over 50 jars of spiced jelley, and spiced butter. The last time I had any was back in 1954. A man my father worked with at NAS-Brunswick had two trees in his field, which we pilliaged, they were good then, and they still are.....

Have finished most of the fall chores, so will start again, (again) on the RR project. Adding another 4X8 to the end of what I have existing, and re-doing my track, among other things. Changing the area I have for siding, and moving things around and about the round house.

One of my friends has decided (at age 83) to go into a side venture with one of the young lobstermen. They will be cutting fire wood this winter--Andy bought a wood processor, cuts the billets to length, and then splits them, then they are carried up a conveyor and dumped into what ever it is to dump in, (Jack bought a new hydraulic dump trailor) Andy figures that days he can't haul traps he can cut firewood. Lobsters have finally started to move, most of the men are catching 1500-2800 pounds a day, and the price has gone UP to 5.78 per pound. (This is a first-usually when the fishing gets good the price will drop as much as a dollar a pound) I have ordered two cords, $300.00 cord, cut/split of maple and oak. If this season is like the last one, I will burn five cords+, and at least 100 gal. of oil.($3.74 a gal.) If I burn just oil, I will go through 580-600 gal. for the winter. Wood is a PTA, no question, but the heat has a way of soaking into the joints, and bones, as I become closer to becoming an octogenarian, this is important.!

Have not put a deer by, yet! I have three coming up to my deck to feed on the apples that have fallen on the ground. One of the mornings this next week---

Time to run the "little  whizzer" before putting her behind bars for the night, and will let the old dogs run one last time before turning in.

Best wishes to all, prayers to those in need----

Huh?

.

Anyway... back in Georgia.... and back to trains in Georgia.

.

There is a massive rail system in Atlanta, but it is very hard to get pictures of most of it. Those tracks show up well on Google Maps, but it is hard to find a place where you can take any pictures without standing on a roadway or trespassing on private property.

.

I found one of the many rail-to-truck warehouses where I could see the trackside of the building. Finally a picture of some modern railroading in Atlanta.

Good Afternoon!

Zoe, coffee in an IV bag, please - I can hardly keep my eyes open. Tried to have a nap after lunch, but my back started to hurt, so that put an end to the attempt.

As cute as the house (the little yellow one) is, it is too small. It has only one bedroom, which again is nice for 1 person, but not for two! No place to put your cloths. The place is nice for a holiday let, but not for year-round living.

No, I am not happy these days!

I'm watching football and getting upset, so I will write here instead.  I can't eat when I watch upsetting football.

Prostates, PSAs, colonoscopies, we sound like a bunch of old men -- oh, wait, we ARE mostly a bunch of old men.  Nevermind.  It's a blessing to have good medical systems today.  Not that long ago, we would have all died from many things that we now can detect and take care of.

Steven, let me know when you figure out women.  I've been married 41 years this Monday, and I know less about them now than I did as a teenager.

If you have never been to Georgia, kind of a neat place to go is Helen, GA.  It is about 1½ hours northeast of Atlanta, up in the mountains.  It has fewer than 600 residents, but has made itself into a major attraction of Bavarian buildings, restaurants, and shops.  Yes, it's touristy, but still an interesting place to see.

Hope everyone has a great Saturday.

A woman´s mind and the contents of her purse shall remain for ever unrevealed to men!

In my 35 years of being married to my beloved wife, I have already given up on any attempt to understand her at an early stage. Maybe that´s why we are still happily married while most of the people we know are divorced, some even the second time around.

John - I don´t want to rain on your parade, but there is absolutely nothing Bavarian about those buildings. They look like a crude caricature of generic southern German buildings in a cheap theme park, but maybe that is what is intended. I am not really keen on chocolate box imitations of the real thing.

I think that is the intention.  They obviously can't be authentic -- they are only built in the past 50 years.  This is more of a tourist attraction -- Disney type of town.  Their shops do sell a lot of German-made products, and it is fun for a day of something different than typical southern fare.

Maybe I shouldn´t be so harsh in my judgement, but this fake "German" or "Bavarian" places transport an image which is so far off the reality that it is rather painful sight to a native German´s eye.

RED ALERT !!!!!   RED ALERT !!!

Aparently, I made my wife "happy" today.   ( did I drop money on the floor ???)

Now I'm trying to think what I did...... so I can do it again.

Anybody remember the movie Groundhog Day?

Yea....... I gotta do everything over again, just the way I did before..... and "THAT": will keep her happy.

( I think my chance's of "survival" are pretty slim ....)

Helen is supposed to look like a fantasy village. It is all supposed to be a way to draw tourists (and their dollars) to a beautiful area in Northern Georgia where the Chattahoochee river begins.

.

I am pretty sure Frontierland in Walt Disney World is not an accurate recreation of the old west. It is all about fun.

.

Helen, Georgia is a magnificently fun place to spend a few days and leave the real world behind, and spend your time there in a Schnitzel/Beer state of euphoria. Tubing the headwaters and walking the paths are a great escape. The shops filled with "German" wares are also a great time.

.

There is a mediocre restaurant in Helen called Paul's Steakhouse right on the Chattahoochee River with seating where you can watch the tubers float by while you eat. Dinner and a show! I love it there.

.

Too bad Charlemagne's Kingdon is no more. The entirety of Germany in HO was something I regret never seeing. My first trip to Helen was only weeks after it closed.

Hello fellow diners. As we continue to explore Georgia, lets head East of Atlanta about an hour or so, and find ourselves in the small town of Monroe.

.

Monroe used to have many cotton mills and gins, but the cotton business in this part of Georgia is no more. There are many impressive remnants on display of the incredible machinery that used to be required to process all of the cotton that was grown in this area.

.

.

Some of the cotton industrial buildings have been repurposed as antique stores. This is one of the largest, and it houses the Antique Revival antique mall.

.

.

Inside this mall there is a Lindy’s Trains booth which provides a good bit of treasure hunting every time I make it to Monroe.

.

.

Monroe has a beautiful town square with another example of an incredible county courthouse building in Georgia.

.

.

This one also has an eternal flame that was placed during the Vietnam War that honors the veterans that have served in all wars.

.

.

Monroe used to have a good sized rail network serving all the cotton mills, but all of these tracks have been long ago abandoned. They are being reclaimed by Mother Nature, and it takes a little bit of hunting to find what remains.

.

.

I was back in Atlanta at meal time, and decided to go to Hattie B’s Hot Chicken. To be honest, Hattie B’s did not originate in Georgia, but in Tennessee. However, the residents of Atlanta have embraced this newcomer, and it is an experience worth driving out of the way to enjoy.

.

.

The hot chicken at Hattie B’s is the best I have ever had, and the sides are always good as well. I love their red skinned potato salad and black eyed peas.

.

.

The trip through Georgia will continue.

Sorry I wasn't here for your call, Ken. I was at my son's house where he is remodeling part of his house, an area that was formerly the garage and the prior owner had made it into living area. Anyway, he cut a hole through a masonry wall and is expanding part of the kitchen into this area. Today I wired new baseboard heaters for him.

So, You jumped right from XP to Win 10? That is a pretty big leap. I had Windows 8 for a few years which made the transition a little easier.

Instead of the KVM switch why not just get another monitor? Flat screens are dirt-cheap these days. Run both computers side-by-side and network them so you can do anything you want on each machine without the silly switch? I have five PCs and a laptop all on the same network along with three printers a bunch of media devices including DVD players and a bunch of Kindle tablets and the security cameras too, all sharing the same network. Piece of cake. The caboose is even a Wi-Fi hot spot since I plugged a wireless access port in to the cat-5 that I ran down there.

You should eventually get used to Windows 10. There are occasional screw-ups, especially when Microsoft does one of their "critical updates". Sometimes things go wonky until someone makes a patch.

Stumbled upon this interesting vid about one of my favorite stretches of track:

I hope everyone is well tonight.

Good Luck, Ed

XP to 10? Gad Zooks!

That's like going flip phone to iOS 11!

That's quite the quantum leap!

Windows 10 is an OK OS, 7 is widely regarded as "better" even though its older, sadly 7 is to be no longer supported as of 01/14/20, so at work we'll be going to 10 soon, and I'll probably be elected to show everyone how to use the new OS, YAY!

Hi everybody,

Helen Georgia could be Brunhilda’s home town.

Big SmileBig Smile

Speaking of,... Brunhilda, coffee with extra cream, please.

Like everybody, we’re still dealing with early winter.  This year the Farmer’s Almanac says we are in for a long and cold one with lots of snow.  Yucko!

Nothing to report MRR wise

Kevin:  I really like the picture of Hattie B’s.  Looks like a mid-century modern gas station.  It’s architecture I really like.

Hello to everyone, and I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Less is more,...more or less!
