IHC heavy weight shell removal?
Posted by onrman3 on Friday, October 18, 2019 6:36 PM

Can people off me advice on how to remove the shells from old IHC heavy weight cars? I am making interiors but I do not know how to manuever the mounting pins without damaging the cars!

There is not really a shell on these cars.

.

The roof and windows are one piece cast in clear plastic, and they have little tabs that hold them onto the floor/sides casting.

.

When the roof/windows are out of the way, you can add the interior.

My question is how do you get these clips to release from uner the floor/base of the model withoiut breaking the tabs themselves?

Push gently inwards and upwards on the tabs, a pair (across from each other) at a time. It might be easier to take the trucks off first (pull the pins out gently but firmly). You may have a few of the tabs pop back into place, so be patient. Some sort of spudger to put between the roof and carbody might help keep one side from popping back into place as you free up the next set of tabs.
