Walthers Auto Rack Instruction/parts list
Posted by dbduck on Monday, September 30, 2019 1:08 PM

Does anyone have an instruction sheet from a Walthers  auto rack?

I need the part number for a replacement roof. I am sure the original roof is around here somewhere..just cant put my hands on it.

And you know how it goes..as soon as you order /buy a replacement, the original comes out of hiding (Murphy's Law)

Or better yet..if someone just happens to have an extra roof laying around

Try the website hoseeker.net. I assume you're talking about the 89' autorack kits. I just checked, and they have some images of the instructions listed, but doesn't seem to have a specific part number associated with it. The models are series 4800, and the roof is part #3 on the diagram, if that helps.

As an alternative, you could probably easily scratchbuild a new roof using corrugated sheet styrene. May even be cheaper than ordering a replacement roof part from Walthers.

Or if you have another autorack model, you could use some aluminum foil to make a copy of the roof by burnishing it over the top to get the corrugation pattern, then cut it out and glue it to some styrene sheet. You wouldn't even have to paint it! Big Smile

I have some kit built Walthers autoracks at home - I'll have to check the boxes for the instructions; I should still have them.

Yeah good luck with that. They don't do parts and I don't think they've re-run the racks recently, have they?

Better chance of that than actually ordering a new one...

Walthers Auto Racks are hard to find. The only ones I found were on E-Bay and not cheap. I think the only Auto Racks made now are Atlas and Intermountain and they are backordered or sold out. Must be a popular rolling stock item.

Being old is when you didn't loose it, it's that you just can't remember where you put it.

They were not cheap when new, & now scarce ..so thus the e-bay pricing
