Are they the same models?Look the same no?
They are different companies so I very much doubt it, specifically which caboose do you mean.

I have three Trueline cabooses and no Rapido ones. I would bet real money that the Rapido ones are more detailed and nicer.
Edit; I bet if you Google Image search the two you are interested in, you could bring them up side by side to compare the two. What two are you looking at, I'll have a look myself.

It’s hard to say without pictures of the specific models and/or the more specifics on which run/model the OP is talking about but a quick google search of each manufacturer and the word caboose reveals the OP is likely talking about Canadian prototype wide vision cabooses (cabeese!).
I suspect based of the search results I found that the are models of the same prototype but different models, as in they use different molds and such. I suspect the Rapido caboose will be very accurate and detail based of Rapids reputation as a company. I know little about trueline trains.

I model my railroad and you model yours! I model my way and you model yours!
Oddly the two companies are 22 km apart
Here are some photos of Rapido cabooses, and some of True Line Trains cabooses.
I have a few of the True Line wooden cabooses, but the Rapido ones are too modern for my layout's era.

Here are two side by side copied and paste off of Waynes links.
Rapido on top.
Rambo2Same molds?
The Rapido one has rivets on the side, the TL does not so that speaks volumes. If you really look closely you can see lots of differences.
No...
What has failed to be pointed out is that the Rapido van on top is N scale, the True Line Trains van on the bottom is HO scale....

That's not true. The photo doesn't show it very well, but the TLT version is also riveted.
Actually the TLT caboose has a long complicated history; it was actually tooled by Rapido as a commission job for a particular dealer (Canadian Model Trains/Tom Tomblin) who suddenly vanished into the night one day... Somehow TLT managed to acquire CMT's assets when no one else could recover anything from them and ultimately brought the project to market.

I was not in the hobby then, but if you google Update on Canadian Model Trains, you can find things on other forums, including a letter from Jason @ Rapido.
In 2012 he shared office and warehouse space with True Line, but were independent companies. Rapido was a supplier to CMT. According to contemporary posts, True Line was going to try to honor pre-existing orders. They purchased the stock (which presumably CMT customers placed deposits) but not the company.
It's not clear how it all worked out by reading the forums or if Rapido is supplying True Line. If True Line shipped the stock to the customers at a loss, that is a heck of a thing to do for the customer.
I could not find a good pic of the TLT HO version, however, the ones I found do look very much like the Rapido one so who knows?
Henry, I remember that story of TLT when it broke.
The three TLT cabooses I have are very nice and I am glad I bought them. It would be nice to have a Rapido one and do a comparison.
BATMAN I could not find a good pic of the TLT HO version, however, the ones I found do look very much like the Rapido one so who knows?
That's probably because as noted Rapido actually designed and tooled them both.
But as also noted, the Rapido CN caboose illustrated above is N scale and the True Line is HO scale, so I'm not sure what sort of side-by-side comparison would be valid. Rapido never released the CN caboose in HO scale themselves since it was a commisioned job by a third party.
Rapido did do another caboose in HO scale, which was a Canadian Pacific caboose so a rather different protoype and design.
Thanks, Chris, for re-educating me(us) It is starting to all come back to me now. I remember reading about the whole thing way back when.

Any way you can copy/paste Jason's reply here? I did find the forum I believe you are thinking about, but Jason's reply seems to be on the second page, and one needs to belong to that forum to view archived items.

Ummm...no. I saw what you did in that forum and found more on some forum named T****board.
I got started on forums in BMW Airhead motorcycles. Nationally known gurus hated being quoted on other forums on which they did not participate nor could defend their opinions. They went so far as to put copyright symbols in their posts.
We have a frequent poster in this forum, who was previously placed on moderation for cross posting from other forums. This is a case in which I agree with management.
Jason is a member here and he can choose to comment or not. I'm not going to put him on the spot here.
I am curious as to how it all turned out. I got the impression that there was a lot less product than there were people with deposits.
I sent you a pm so there are no hard feelings
